  • Should I U/G to fcp 6.0.2/QT7.3?

Posted by Tristan004 on December 6, 2007 at 12:59 am

We’re editing programs in 720p originated in P2. There’s apparently a known issue where fcp 6.0.1 won’t allow you to edit DF while working on a 720p timeline (the Drop Frame selection check box is grayed out). Apparently, it’s been fixed in 6.0.2. BUT… word on the street is to stay away from QT 7.3 – and therefore fcp 6.0.2.

What’s the bottom line on QT 7.3? Should we upgrade? Or wait?

    Thanks,

I almost posted this EXACT question.

    My situation is this…

I’m working with 3 clients, 1 with P2 footage, the third gave me sequences that give me an error “software not new enough”. So I assume its originated from an updated system (they do not use P2 footage).

I have read many horror stories (Shane Ross) about the hassle trying to get P2 functionality back after the upgrade.

Apple is requiring I upgrade to QT 7.3, then ProApps, then FCP 6.02 (among others for other apps if needed).

Should I stay away from this upgrade still?
    Shane?

My biggest client is the one with P2 footage and I can’t jeopardize that.
Any success stories with upgrading, then using P2 footage?

    Thanks

I have been running great with the updates. There was a problem if you have FX Factory installed that they have since updated, that didn’t allow P2 import. If you don’t have FXFactory no worries. If you do, then simply update the app:

The 6.0.2 update has been much more stable for me than 6.0.1. It was well worth the download. 6.0.2 does in fact add 720 DF functionality and gets rid of the pesky disappearing renders.

    Thanks Jeremy.

I thought the problem was the combination of upgrading quicktime & FCP.

So your on QT 7.3 and FCP 6.02, with no P2 troubles?

    This is encouraging news.

Yeah, works for me. I don’t have FXFactory. I usually hate QT upgrades, but this one has been great for me anyway. But I’m just one dude.
