  • You say it has general been discussed. Does that mean that it actually does give better results?

    Easy.

Create a nested sequence: created your timeline with edits, effects, etc. Create a second sequence and drag the “clip” of your first sequence into the second sequence’s timeline. Add the widescreen matte to the clip. Done. Very usefull technique to apply the same effect to all clips of a particular sequence.

  • Yes, I AM doing green screen work and am trying to avoid the DV artifacts. I don’t know much about the different compressions, that’s why I’m asking. Not getting much response. I should ask the question differntly with different subject.

I’ve done this in downtown Orlando. Turned out great. What you do it have the actor “move in slow motion.” Say 50%. Try slowing down the shutter to 1/30. Slowing the shutter on the camera will help you blur the world around him. I suppose you can add motion blur in post, but camera trick turn out nicer. Experiement with a few different methods, before you do the real thing.

Or, do what I do. Plug a DVD player into my camera. Plug the camera into the computer through firewire. In the capture settings, use NON-CONTROLLABLE NTSC device and use “capture now.”

I’ve got an idea. Create the text on one layer. Copy it and place it on top. Change the color of the top layer to yellow or whatever. Then create a mask for the top layer that only allows one word to be shown. Won’t work exactly what you want. or you can just use the bouncing ball and keyframe the timeing. You might even be able to keyframe the mask to grow or shrink as the word passes through.

I did tests with my footage (DVX100a, 60i) and compared all the different combinations of settings in twixtor with the ones in FCP. For MY footage, my FCP method was better than twixtor. Used a monitor and not just the screen. I think someone needs to test their methods with their own footage. My footage was wakeboarding. The rider is traveling at 25mph past water and trees and sky all while doing fast, twisting flipping motions. the twixtor footage either distorted the rider, or the trees or the water, or blurred areas that moved too far from frame to frame.
