You could maybe do it with an edl? Or a macro..

You could cut with the mix track but have the 8 iso tracks bundled as a 7.1 audio track along for the ride. This will make for easier editing.

You can’t have multicam grouped clips with multichannel clips – so you may need to lay out your sequence before cutting.

Virtual Katy and Conformalyzer can conform the production mix back to the iso recordings, allegedly. Not sure how foolproof it is.

  • If you use an animatte as the power window matte then you can colour correct inside or out (indeed you could dupe the layer and ccr the opposite side too).

It’s all a bit clunky all round. Avid is the outstanding editing tool, but is pretty poor at fx/ccr without delving into the 3rd party options (include AvidFX and Fusion in those if you are looking… ) – and the AVX interface does not lend itself to working at speed.

I’m not sure it’s going to improve any time soon either. I think it’s more likely Blackmagic or Filmlight or Digial Vision would come up with editing tools that are OK enough within a decent grading programme. IF they thought they could make money from them.

You could import them with ‘do no resize smaller images’ in the next size up broadcast raster – and do a crop back down to the native size at the end in some other programme (compressor?)… if you really need to keep that size.

  • [steve knattress] “The machine constants are correct ( although changes do not effect the edit point)

then I don’t think they can be correct 😉

if they start ff ff AND there is no entry in the vtrc25 or vtrc30.idt file or in the ROM then the bve uses a BVH3000 as the vtr constants.

the first 4 hex digits have to match what the vtr reports itself as for the rest of the manual entry to be used.

(I can’t believe I still remember that – I could really use those brain cells at my age)

[Angelo Lorenzo] “I wonder if normal customers will see some of the custom features added for AP like editing files as they’re still being recorded (I’m sure there are some codec limitations but awesome feature if you’re capturing to a raid array).”

I would assume (but don’t know) that that refers to edting a growing quicktime as supplied by the Sienna system from Gallery. (They made PictureReady which did this a number of years ago for FCP). They make a QT container that they ‘fill in’ … it is available to edit as a source to within a few seconds of ‘live’.

From the IBC reports PPro will also be able to do this with EVS growing files (as Avid MC and FCP7 have been able to do for some time).

Does show that Adobe are serious about making inroads in broadcast to fill the FCP vacuum… II’m taking bets on when I met get my first PPro booking if anyone’s interested (thought not 😉

“3) I just put in my first ATEM 2M/E today. The audio mixer is nice, but how will I really use it without a control surface. Mix 16 channels with a mouse ? A control surface with USB or Ethernet interface is critical to make this practical. ”

The neyrinck iPad app vControl could work potentially if the protocol were implemented. Although for a live show I wouldn’t be so sure.:)

Be interesting to see how long FCP7 kicks along with zero development.

Interesting title… was there any Olympic editing at all done on FCP-X?

I suspect there was a fair amount done on FCP7, but all I saw was Avid v6…

July 16, 2012 at 6:32 pm in reply to: Open Avid FX with Red?

I assume you mean the fx created within the avid app (otherwise you could just open the .red files from within Boris Red).

I’d pose the question to Boris support … there may be some hidden directory containing the .red files you would need to salvage the effect, but a search on my system only reveals .red files I have saved as such deliberately. You may well be SOL. You’d have to replace the footage anyway as it wouldn’t be able to reference the avid timeline.

I suppose you could open the sequence containing the avidfx on a system that was working and save them out as .red files.

Are you sure that the windows aren’t minimized or somesuch in AvidFX?
