  • I have issues if it’s in the same text layer. Try using the expression in a different layer? Works for me then.

Still a useful thread after all these years. Converting the dropdown output to string made the switch work.

    Thanks

Can’t see what use markers are if you can’t jump to/from them. I guess workaround is to use a null layer for markers.

  • MC7 is old now. 2018.12.3 is current.

One option is to promote 23.98 / 25 FPS motion adapters & modify speed to 100% (or, on later versions modify playback rate via source settings). This will play source material frame per frame – which may be fine if you don’t need audio from those clips.

Alchemist now have a software option but it’s not cheap.

I’ ve moved an ongoing job back to Avid from PP. It was on PP as it was a turnaround and I didn’t want to transcode, now in Avid I just link pretty much everything (I do import music as it is quick, sample rate converts if necessary and I had a sequence link to wrong music track once).

Linking mixed frame rates works. There’s more choice in how Avid deals with the frame rate conversion too.

Background render works well but exporting ties up the machine (ie no AME style integration) also H264 can take a long time so there’s a few options around exporting QT Ref or SAS or intermediate codec & having AME or other products make the H264.

Export options have expanded over recent years – what do you need? I tend to either export OP1a AVCI or DNX MXF or have a ProRes mixdown track and export QT SAS (same as source). I have nablet plugin for linking/exporting XAVC MXF too.

Ditto – I have https://forums.creativecow.net/recent_posts.php as a bookmark but it’s been a blank page for a few days now.

Avid Symphony long in the tooth as far as grading goes. It had a bit of an upgrade recently and got masks… which are OK sort of.

That said it is great for an NLE grading system as it has relational grading (i.e. you can grade a segment, all instances of a subclip, a masterclip, a tape etc) which makes it very quick.

For more serious grading on Avid I would recommend the Baselight plug-in. This also has relational grading and a very deep feature set (akin to Resolve). There’s a 30 day trial.

I don’t even transcode or consolidate (short turnaround)… just link, edit, finish, export, backup source files & small avid media files folders (renders & music imports). Solid workflow now. It’s brought me back from PPro

[greg janza] “Unless that keyboard can allow me to work while sunning at the beach, it’s insanely overpriced.”

Decent jog/shuttle could be worth $1000.

  • ‘Keep older versions’ when upgrading, only keeps previous full versions eg v12.0.2 kept, not v13.0.2 if installing v13.1.0 IIRC

The only way for 13.0.2 and 13.1.0 to coexist (in macos) is to rename the app (eg add 2019.0.2 to the end)

Not supported & may give you problems, but I’ve been doing this since about cc15 without issue.
