Why avoid a computer… should mostly be a set and forget if it isn’t doing anything tricky? Surely must be the easiest way to run 8 tracks in sync.
Make an 8 track .mov and have VLC run in loop playback
put it in a batch file that runs on start up and all anyone has to do is turn the computer off and on again

Unfortunately even a 9 way wouldn’t play from a single fw800 drive.
It wouldn’t be too tricky for them to add the export feature.. Where is the fcp7 feature request list?

I think FCx has some interesting features. But I don’t think I’ll get a paying job on it in the next 18 months.
Smoke stands more of a chance, as does PPro.
I suspect my breakdown for the next 12 months (same market as Neil) will be:
Avid: 60% steady
IPEdit: 25% and growing
FCP7: 15% and shrinking
Tape: 0% sunk without trace
Smoke: 0% no sign of interest yet (would be a better fit than Avid for a promo department)
PPro: 0% no sign of interest yet (but Adobe are keen)
FCx: 0% no sign of interest yet -
a. you are unlikely to get anyone who truly knows all 3 to an equivalent level to make this comparison
b. even if they do they probably won’t understand your specific needs
c. if they did, they should be charging you a decent amount for that bespoke consultationthe nature of the open forum is that you can set out what the needs are, see the arguments unfold from those willing to invest their knowledge to gain that of others, then you’ll be in a position to do some informed testing or employ someone to do it for you.

Dennis, presumably your EVS workflow is like the fcp7 one of accessing growing qt ref files?
We did it on the EVS ipedit actually… And it was comfortable. First time ive used their edit while playback feature and I was impressed.
Be good to see how adobes plans work out in this area, there’s a lot of fcp7s on sports remotes.

If you need to convert color channels of a video track to an alpha channel then apply bcc make alpha to the video track that you want to work as a hicon.
