I noted the same thing… It’s an issue in my world as all the EVS are set to DNx these days… (They were prores for fcp7, so I suppose they might return if FCPx gains traction … Uphill battle though)… Roll on AVC-intra (maybe)

This is the project I created it in … Was a test to try out FCPx … You might be able to adapt it for non-PAL although from memory (I don’t have x installed) the sync test was a QT import… Might have the original motion project for that somewhere

I’m pretty sure that punch-in tool does not work with embedded audio prior to v6.
And I’m not entirely sure that it works in v6 either 🙁
I expect it is down to the inability to have video I at the same time as O

Hmm NEVER had an issue with insert editing from avid.
FCP yes (underlying QT inherently incapable as the quantising to frame edge was 50:50)

In avid you can ‘auto sequence’ all the clips from one camera. This puts them at their ‘time of day’ position in a timeline. (Assuming that is the timecode recorded).
But you do then have to combine those on multiple VandA layers and ensure sync throughout (eye blinks are good once you are close) before grouping as it is a PITA in avid to fix that after the fact.
Best to get TC right during shoot to save post time. And/or get the shooters to stick a phone with an HH:MM:SS time in front of lens at head or tail.
I like the look of X multicam (find it clunky in 7). Not sure when I’m going to get to use it though…

The previous editor may have been inexperienced, but when I edit long form in fcp7 then this is the way I work.
I find it easier to manage fcp7 projects that are kept small and more akin to avid bins.
Searching via spotlight is easy and with full string outs finding shots is easy and the edit project is kept to a reasonable size.
Now if you are editing in avid (or x) then any organisation from fcp7 is not so useful without some extra work 🙁

Also can be a useful technique for getting clean vo if you only have full mix and international.
Doesn’t always work though 🙂
