Hi Peter,
Thanks for your advice. I have sorted out the bottom half pretty well, now I just need the top half, which is hard to keep it from warping and jiggling too much.
This is how it looks so far…

I started off using Vegas then upgraded to Vegas 8 Pro. Its very cheap as well, I found it really buggy with over 1 1/2hr+ timelines. However it will pretty much take any footage you can through at it. I’ve switched to Final Cut now but if you had a decent system going I would go for Sony Vegas, but you will need After Effects or something if you want any decent effects done.
My 2 cents

Funny you say that, its up to its tenth edition which we use in University at the moment, great overview book
If you want to learn more about the technical side of broadcast and how it all works you should definately get ‘Television Technology Demystified by Aleksander Louis Todorovic and distributed by Focal Press.Trent Whittington – Currently studying Associate Degree in Digital Television

haha well after I finished my first year of studying digital television last year I thought it would be smart to get my bag clean and washed ready for the new year (4 months off…way too long) ; at any rate I took out all pens and my laptop EXCEPT the lacie drive which was hidden at the bottom. I placed it in water to soak only to come back a day later to find my poor LaCie drive soaked, it was also my only copy of my work for the entire year. So i took it apart figuring that it doesnt exactly withstand warranty so what can it hurt giving it a shot at drying out….next day I plugged it straight into a macbook pro and was surprise to see it automatically detected and was ready to store once again.
Since that stupid mistake I now have everything backed up twice and VERY important projects stored on multiple dual layer dvd data discs at one of my relatives house…so even if the house burnt down I would still have those precious projects to look back at when I retire. BTW I’m only 19 so I dont even know if there will be something to play them in the future…I mean VHS its only a matter of time until DVD is on the chopping block, if not is already.Trent Whittington – Currently studying Associate Degree in Digital Television

March 8, 2009 at 3:19 pm in reply to: LaCie Drive demounts randomly – something to worry about?I too am a fan of LaCie, I once accidently dropped one in water (dont ask how) and opened it up, let it dry….next day lost NO footage, too this day still works fine I just use it as a spare harddrive for files that I can afford to lose. I’m only a student so ill stay with LaCie until I can afford something like a caldigit or g-raid set-up; but until then LaCie are great drives in my opinion 🙂

Thanks for the great advice Guys.
Ive basically told the client that the extra 8 copies wont be a problem but after that I will start charging and they totally understand which I was heaps glad about.
Thanks again 🙂

Thankyou Bob for all your advice 🙂
The place that is doing it isn’t a full blown film house it is just a small company. They advertise going to dvd but like I said because I wanted to edit it and play around with it it would of been even worse ripping from a dvd, also its quite a lot cheaper getting it as data. Thanks again

Well the only real advantage a macbook pro has over a mac pro is that its much more travel friendly hence being a notebook. So unless your working on the road or travelling alot then I would get a macbook pro over a mac pro.
If price is an issue then I would get the highest end iMac which offers a reasonable compromise between the macbook and mac pro. I use my 3.06ghz iMac for doing some weddings and other things and it handles just fine but Im not working with uncompressed 10bit footage, im only working with HDV-pro res. And the other major problem with an imac or macbook is not being able to add capture cards and with the iMac only having 1 bus for all its I/O its not the most versatile either. (you could also buy a AJA IoHD if you wanted to monitor capture using HDMI, SDI etc.)If you need expandability go for the best Mac Pro you can afford
If you need portability go the best Macbook Pro you can afford
If you need something in between fo the best iMac you can afford (having 4gb RAM is a must tho)
Thats my 2cents.
