  • Batch Capturing HDV 720p25 prores HQ?

    Hey guys,

We have a bunch of HDV 720p25 footage and was wondering if we can capture HDV 720p25 footage as Prores 422(HQ) via an AJA Kona LHe without capturing every clip?
I have created a batch list in excel ready for capturing next week and I’ve tested importing the batch list into Final Cut Pro and it works fine. I’ve seen a tutorial somewhere online where the person explained that you could capture prores 422 HQ straight out of a capture card except it creates a clip for everytime you click start/stop record. As I said we are capturing next week and just wanted to make sure the batch list we created will work instead of capturing it as HDV 720p25 and then transcoding to prores, obviously it would be alot faster if we could do it at the same time.

I dont have specs of the system or VTR but I’ve been told people capture 720p25 into that suite all the time, so I guess Im just asking whether or not you can use a Batch capture list to capture Prores 422(HQ)?

    Thanks Heaps! Much Appreciated.

Yeah, just move your entire list into FCP.

    Launch Log and Capture.

Select the clips you want to capture in the bin.

Click “Batch” in the log and capture window.

    Choose “Selected Clips Only.”

I believe similar questions to this one have been answered quite a few times in the Final Cut Pro Basics forum.

And ProRes is fine, no need to go with the HQ. You can review posts from Gary Adcock for the differences between the two. We’ve switched over to just using ProRes as a result of capture / render issues in HQ.
