May 21, 2009 at 2:39 pm in reply to: Recording and selling DVDs of dance recital – music rightsI thought id add to the question. What would happen if say you were shooting a documentary and you could clearly hear a popular music in the background. Is this still Illegal for not having consent? Because the main content is the Interviewee?

Thank’s alot guy’s really appreciate all the advice. We have also been speaking to the audio department and they said it might be possible to record a constant metronome sound as suggested except take input it via an XLR on one track and the song on the other track.

You may also want to check the television specifications and see what resolution it supports over VGA. With my iMac I have a 32inch 1080p television plugged in via mini dvi-vga but my television will only accept 1024×768 through VGA, however if I get mini dvi-hdmi it will accept the full 1080.
Just another useful thing to keep in mind.

I have an iMac at the moment and constantly work with prores 422(HQ) files. I have never worked with the AVCHD format so I cant even give an estimation as how long it will take to transcode, however if you use compressor and dont use frame controls Im sure it wont be much slower then maybe 1-2 times slower then real time. I could be way off on this, but you DEFINATELY DON’T need an octo-core mac pro to work with AVCHD.

“Another thing I’m looking to do is to be able to time warp clips as if they had the start and ending points I cut them down to in the time line.
I’m running a multiclip and then I cut between the two cameras. After these cuts are done, I want to ramp the speed from one shot to another, so the transition is seamless.”
Hi Andrew,
You could do this by making the two cameras have the same time re-map and too simply keyframe one clip in the motion tab then once you are happy, simply copy the attributes from that clip and paste the time re-map attributes onto the other clip(s).Hope that helps 🙂

Hey,
I’m not sure if your migration play will work or not but why don’t you buy a cheap usb powered external dvd drive? You can get off ebay for about $50. Then if you ever needed to re-install fcp again you won’t have to worry about migrating the program again.

It also comes down to organization. Set out a specific way you will name and capture all footage and insist on everyone who is working on the project to do the same thing.
There is a great article in the latest COW Magazine by Dustin Lau on media management also; be sure to check it out 🙂
best of luck.
