I am now officially beating the dead horse. I have already gotten great advice from just one post asking about AVCHD and FCP, but I’m asking for just a couple more clarifications.

I now know AVCHD editing in FCP is best accomplished with 6.0.5 and an Intel Mac, but does that Mac need to be a quad core or 8 core Mac Pro, or will an Intel Core Duo iMac do the job?

And, while I’m at it, what are transcode times like for AVCHD to ProRes on import through Log and Transfer (I’m sure transcode times vary with processor speed and RAM, but I’m looking for a ballpark time)?

    Thanks again,

    Reid

I have an iMac at the moment and constantly work with prores 422(HQ) files. I have never worked with the AVCHD format so I cant even give an estimation as how long it will take to transcode, however if you use compressor and dont use frame controls Im sure it wont be much slower then maybe 1-2 times slower then real time. I could be way off on this, but you DEFINATELY DON’T need an octo-core mac pro to work with AVCHD.
