The only “fix” I found was to use the ‘end search’ feature that is built into the DVX. It is the little button towards the top right of the camera near the zoom button. It at least puts you at the end of your last take without getting the gaps in the t ape. I tried the camera reset and all that accomplished for me was, well, resetting my camera.

As for footage that I already have on broken TC tapes… The ‘capture now’ feature of FCP has also allowed me to skirt the actual issue and get my footage onto the G5. I just use my cheap Canon ZR-70 camcorder to capture media onto the computer and haven’t had any problems there with capture now. Apparantly the DVX is super-sensitive to timecode issues that other cameras don’t pick up.

Im not sure I understand your question about the (fix). But the playback screen is blue when it does this and when I try to record it just flashes the * in the TC line letting me know it has issues.

DV Rack by Serious Magic. I saw this in a supply catalog that I receive. It lists for $295 in Markertek. It looks really good on paper and I am looking at checking it out myself. If you get it, post back on here and let me know how it is and I will do the same. Here is what it claims:
    pro field monitor
    DV recorder
    video analyzer
    audio spectrum analyzer
    DV grabber
    Waveform & Vectorscope
    SureShot module
    Timer/clock Stopwatch

Ok I did this, but I am not sure what I did. I know that I lost alot of my settings elsewhere in the camera. I also know that a NEW tape that I put in for the next shoot also gave me timecode issues on the first record run I did on it. So apprantly that reset feature or whatever does not effect the TC issue. Any other advice anyone?

  • I tried the QT reinstall and it worked! I didn’t even have to dig up my Pro registration key again, somehow that one stuck around. Try this before you wipe your disk.

    Thanks for the link!

  • You’ve got to be kidding. I believe that the reinstall worked for you, BUT for just one program to recognize a firewire device while the rest of your software already does? It seems that a reinstall of FCP would do that trick. Did you try that before hand?

Should I not let the computer go to sleep when FCP is open? How should I set this in my system prefs? Obviously, since I am using a PB at this time, when I shut it it sleeps. I just need to know when to do what. I assume it is ok to let the computer and HDs sleep when FCP isnt being used.

    Thanks again

Im only about 3 months into my Mac career, so pardon this potentially stupid question. What is the best way to clean and defrag a Mac HD? I know very well about the utilities in XP and I know about permissions in Mac, but what else?

    Thanks!

    Mitch thanks!

That SEEMS to have worked. Man if Apple had some sort of uninstall utility with it these sort of things wouldn’t happen. I would have gotten it ALL the first time and not spend 6 hours stressing out today instead of getting work done.

    Thanks,
    Travis

I already did that. But for good measure i did it again. I repaired my permissions twice and deleted the apple.motion.plist and still the “thread 8” crash. Interesting side note, it repaired the same issues both times.

    HELP!
