Running 17″PB, 1.67, 1 Gig RAM, 100 GB internal, 160GB exernal. Motion ran fine when I first got the PB in March, I hadn’t used it much since, I tried to launch it last night and it bounced once in the dock and nothing. I checked the crash log and found that I was missing a pluginmanager folder & stuff in my library. I replaced those from a friends and it was missing something else. So I decided to do a reinstall after deleting prefs and checking permissions to no avail. It started once fine after the reinstall and then I reinstalled Motion Content, now I can get the splash screen, tell it to start a new project or whatever, and it crashes after that. I get an error message about something in “Thread 8” crashing but I can’t interpret beyond that. Any ideas? Or any previous threads that I couldn’t find? I am REALLY frustrated at this point, this is a program that Mac is so proud of yet they provide almost no support for it on their site.

    Thanks a ton!

P.S. I am new to Mac so I may have missed something somewhere but I have tried everything I know.

I forgot to add that I am using Motion 1 and 10.3.9, I haven’t upgraded anything yet.

    Travis,
Repair permissions and trash Motions preferences.

I already did that. But for good measure i did it again. I repaired my permissions twice and deleted the apple.motion.plist and still the “thread 8” crash. Interesting side note, it repaired the same issues both times.

    HELP!

[Travis Paulding] “P.S. I am new to Mac so I may have missed something somewhere but I have tried everything I know.”

Travis… is it possible that you had Motion 1.01 installed? If so you will need to manually remove everything because reinstalling the original CD now has you hosed with a mix of 1.0 and 1.01 stuff.

If so, do a search for “Motion” and manually remove all the files, prefernces, etc. Do the search untill nothing else shows up, then reinstall from the CD and then update to 1.01. It’s not as difficult as it might sound…

    Mitch thanks!

That SEEMS to have worked. Man if Apple had some sort of uninstall utility with it these sort of things wouldn’t happen. I would have gotten it ALL the first time and not spend 6 hours stressing out today instead of getting work done.

    Thanks,
    Travis

This is the only thread of many I’ve read that may actually fix this. Trying it now.

    YES! Thank you thank you!!

Note: the only file I trashed was the app itself.
