  • Upgraded to Tiger, now FCP doesn’t see camera

    G4 PB, 1.67 GHz, 1.5 Gig RAM, 10.4.2

Upgraded to Tiger yesterday and now FCP doesn’t recognize any DV cams. The cams connect to my PB fine and say “DV in” on the screen until I try to use them in FCP. The log and capture screen says preview disabled and lets me control the deck but nothing else works. iMovie HD runs it & captures fine. Refreshing external AVs does nothing, deleting prefs, restarts etc. all to no avail. I know i can capture in iMovie in the mean time but that sure isn’t how I want to have to do things.

I read a post elsewhere that says something about QT 7.1 but if it was QT I would think that the problem would be system wide and not just FCP.

    Help!
    Thanks in advance,
    Travis

Unfortunately, the only way to really fix the problem is to do an ARCHIVE install or a CLEAN INSTALL. I erased my hard drive, spent hours installing everything again, and now FCP sees my DSR-20. Truthfully, although it’s a pain, reinstalling everything gets rid of a lot of garbage. Make sure to get the newest version of DISK WARRIOR so you can repair and optimise your directory.

You’ve got to be kidding. I believe that the reinstall worked for you, BUT for just one program to recognize a firewire device while the rest of your software already does? It seems that a reinstall of FCP would do that trick. Did you try that before hand?

Yes, I tried that! I am a video editor, and FCP not recognizing my DSR-20 would have rendered the program useless and I would be out of a job. I had to do it!

There are lots of other saying the in the official Apple support site, they have a simplish solution over there now guys. I suggest you check it out before going too mad and wiping your HDs.

    Found here:

    Quote from the above link……

The workaround is to download Quicktime *manually*, after removing the “receipts” which indicate that it is loaded. Specifically, I was told to do the following:

    1. Navigate to Library -> Receipts on your main drive (not from your personal folder).

    2. Remove all files of the form QuickTime*.pkg, where “*” is a version number. E.g. QuickTime600.pkg, QuickTime650.pkg, Quicktime700.pkg and QuickTime701.pkg. This simply tells your system that those packages are not installed.

    3. Go to https://www.apple.com/quicktime/downloads and click on the “download Quicktime” link. DO NOT USE THE AUTOMATIC UPDATE UTILITY. Download QuickTimeInstallerX.dmg. Double click this file (probably on your desktop) and then invoke the installer by double clicking QuickTime701.pkg.

    4. After your computer reboots, you should be able to restart FCE and see your camera.

I did those things… All to no avail.

I tried the QT reinstall and it worked! I didn’t even have to dig up my Pro registration key again, somehow that one stuck around. Try this before you wipe your disk.

    Thanks for the link!
