August 25, 2009 at 7:31 pm in reply to: Problems with deck link HD extreme and HDMI connectionI have this same issue and BMD is basically sitting on the support request. One email a week seems to be all they can muster.

August 23, 2009 at 1:11 am in reply to: Getting AVI’s captured with a PC/Blackmagic Design codec to play in FCPThere’s some dark voodoo here. In order to do this, you need to open up the video files in a hex editor and change some of the header information from lower case to capitals etc. There may be a tutorial on it around if you search, I no longer have that email available.
While it is possible, I found that the final cut pro machine didn’t play back the footage very well, thought that may have changed in later revisions.
Why BMD doesn’t have a codec that is transportable is beyond me.

Huh, well, like I said, it’s a big topic and I can’t see why you would be applying a corrective filter to the bmp clip and it applies it to the clip underneath. That doesn’t make sense to me either so there’s not much I can say. How did you “edit” it in photoshop? Did you make an alpha channel? There’s stuff that’s missing from this explanation that make it hard to fix.
What should you try next? To do what? Hide a sign? Reshoot the shot without the sign, or cover it in shot. Use After Effects to remove it using roto and motion tracking, or learn to use the color correction filters.
Maybe someone else knows why the clip isn’t correcting properly. Maybe you can nest it in another sequence to make sure there is nothing else in the timeline when you apply the filter.

Well, color is a lot of learning but the first thing is that tiff and video (most kinds of video) have different color spaces, so yeah, it won’t look exactly right. I’d try an uncompressed format like BMP or the like for your screenshot of the sign.
Beyond that, you are on your own, like I said, color is a beast of a subject.

Is haywire a technical term? You still didn’t answer my question. Is the audio drifting? Or is it entirely off from beginning to end?
By drifting I mean that when you get to that sequence, does it slowly get more and more out of sync, or is it just off sync by the same amount the whole sequence?
If it’s the one sequence, I’d say check that sequence.

First question in response would be is the audio all out of sync from beginning to end or is it slipping where it starts in sync and becomes out of sync gradually?

June 25, 2009 at 5:45 pm in reply to: Another Month, STILL NO new updates for CS4 support? This is killing me too. I had this massive rush to support me from their internal staff who assured time after time they were concerned with the quality of the product and my user experience. I’m not sure I got more than words out of that exchange. All my problems still exist. I can only hope they are really fixing something and it’s taking time cause they are going to get it right, but fact is, I have little faith.

I’m not saying there IS an update coming soon, I’m asking BMD to tell us if there is. I had been working with their support team but they are on and off useful. If I make a stink, they help me, if I leave them to look at a problem and wait for their response I can hear crickets in Texas. They are great at responding to my angst but terrible at resolving a damn thing.
As it stands, I can’t use my BMD card with anything until a working set of drivers come out for CS4. They kept saying 4.1 would fix things, but nothing is fixed and now I can only assume it’s a driver issue on BMD side, right?

HD Extreme v3? And is that footage 30Pn? I was told by a rep the reason my timeline won’t play back was because that framerate wasn’t supported.

I’m using P2 and it’s completely useless. Can’t utilize the blackmagic card at all, given my workflow. It appears there are some framerates/sizes that BMD doesn’t support. Check their support site if you are in doubt at all.
