    Works a charm. Thanks.

Okay, the transcode facility won’t allow me to transcode to standard def, only DNxHD (DNxHD 120 being the lowest). I’m working on Adrenaline 2.2.7. Is there additional functionality in any of the later releases? Or does anyone have any other down-rez ideas I could try?

That sounds like an excellent idea. I’ll give it a try. Thanks.

March 2, 2007 at 12:23 pm in reply to: Converting NTSC to PAL using Avid – Help!

Wow! Thanks Michael – I’m impressed.

I’m not overly familiar with the Avid console, but I assume I just type in the command and hit return. Any ideas on how to get it back to it’s original setting(s) once I’ve finished with the import please?

Also, is it possible (theoretically) to convert from 23.976p to 25i? Or does the conversion only work to 25p?

Thanks for the first response though. That’s really a big help.

  • Cool. Thanks guys, that’s a big help.

Might be a silly question, but do you have V1 selected as well as A1 and A2 in the capture dialog window?

  • Fixed it. Posting the answer here for reference.

I purchased a USB Blaster 5.1 external soundcard from Creative and now the program runs fine. https://shopping.yahoo.com/p:Creative%20USB%20Sound%20Blaster%20Live%20(24-bit%20External)%20Sound%20Card:1991616859 shows an example of one for the curious.

January 23, 2007 at 4:03 pm in reply to: Colour Grading Courses in Australia???

I know you’re looking for a course, but if you’d consider a book instead I can recommend ‘Color Correction for Digital Video’ by CMP Books. It’s part of the DV Expert series. Just start at the beginning and work through the examples. That’s how I learnt. I actually had to read it twice because color correction’s one of the things I had difficulty getting my head round.

It’s pretty comprehensive covering scopes, setup, monitor calibration, secondary color correction, mattes, etc., etc.

I know it’s not a course, but it’s probably a lot cheaper and you’ll likely end up learning just as much anyway (and no I don’t work for the company, nor do I have any affiliation with the authors).

The only thing with doing this is obviously you’ll need a system to practice on… If you want any advice about plug-ins for the more advanced stuff (if you’re working on Xpress Pro or Adrenaline for example), just put up a post saying so.

January 19, 2007 at 3:47 pm in reply to: Interlaced lines in all Avid export files

One solution is to create a video mixdown of the entire sequence, load it into the source monitor and apply a motion effect at 100% (no change in speed) to the mixdown. When applying the motion effect, choose the ‘Render Motion Effect with Duplicated Fields’ option.

The above said, it is probably also worth checking with whoever provided you with the QuickTime files how they were exported as far as ‘File Field Order’ and ‘Color Levels’ settings go. There are a number of different options for QuickTime exports.
