  • Since the majority of my work is sports, it’s not looking very good at the moment. I’ve been through major league strikes and lockouts in the past but there were always other events to fill in the gaps. This is a completely different level.

Some of the networks have paid us for some canceled events which was unexpected and much appreciated.

Ironically just a few weeks ago I was speaking at Drexel University and traveling through South Carolina with my little X made documentary. A much needed source that has helped fill in the cracks a bit.

Some tiny little film that I made to help others and is now there for me. Luck, fate, something higher, or whatever one wants to call it.

I walked across the land of Redcliffe Plantation as a free African American and imagined what those who came there before me would have thought had they met me.

I had incredible experiences that would have all been missed had they been scheduled now. I try not to ever take anything for granted in life.

Cherish what is in front of you in that moment.

    Be well

[Oliver Peters] “Remember, the deal with Apple happened later – after the choice of which NLE to use was already made.”

The deal might not have been “inked” until after but did he “anticipate” a possible deal option with Apple?

Seems like he would have, since he had “a relationship with apple”.

    I know I would.

Thanks for the article Oliver, I found it very interesting. The film looks very cool also.

I see Apple pushed a bit for X to be used.

“George has a relationship with Apple and they had suggested using Final Cut Pro X”

I remember suggesting that if I were Apple I would have pushed for X on their Holliday spot a couple of years back, and I got a lot of push back on here for it as I recall ; )

I said back then that I had a great deal of experience working with big corps and when they “suggest” something…………. it happens.

Looks like it worked out fine for them.

It’s a good thing for X users because if they want folks to use X on big films like this, they are going to make improvements that filmmakers want from them. That will help anyone who uses X.

“True, but it’s wasn’t a multi-editor team. Hence, no need for collaboration tools.”

That’s my point. Some teams work like that and can do great work without it.

And they did it without those collaboration tools.

[Oliver Peters] “[Tony West] ” but he doesn’t seem to be complaining about not being able to work in the same library”

We shouldn’t lump “collaboration” into a single workflow. “

I’m not. Jeremy already listed examples of how it would improve his workflow and I acknowledged that in the same post.

“This is not to say that Morrison can’t benefit from being able to work in the same Library” see?

My point was that Morrison is in their ear, and unless you and Jeremy are also, we may not get the change.

[Bill Davis] “Tangier’s Billie Eilish nod is very relevant to my thinking.”

That was actually me Bill. The other brother ; )

[Jeremy Garchow] “I don’t know if you have watched many of these influencer videos “

I have Jeremy and that’s part of how I came to my conclusions. This video with Jonathan Morris on “collaboration” in X is a perfect example.
Two things jump out at me, 1. They mention that he has Apple’s ear 2. The way he describes his collaborative workflow near the end of it. He describes just what I wrote, jumping in and out with other editors. I understand why he has their ear, he has millions of viewers but he doesn’t seem to be complaining about not being able to work in the same library. The opposite, he’s talking about how much he “Loves” it. My point is, if they are listing to him say that, are they more likely to change it or not? I’m not privy to what he says to them offline, maybe he is telling them something different but I suspect not.
This is not to say that Morrison can’t benefit from being able to work in the same Library, I’m just saying if HE were telling them that it might go a long way.

I have spoken with editors who cut some of the top feature films in Hollywood and some of them are working remotely. I figure if they are doing it on that level and small groups are, how soon before almost everyone is scattered about. It seem that’s what groups like Frame IO and maybe your Postlab are betting on.

The elephant in the thread is, is the future trend working in groups in the same building or remotely? If it’s the latter, what does that workflow look like?
