I’m working on a project that I have shot B-roll for in different States.
So landfill in Kentucky would be
“kY landfill WS” (wide shot) or “Chi statue CU” Chicago statue close up
When I type KY I can see everything I shot in that state. Then I narrow from there (I love it).
Do you use markers? When I log an interview now I put in markers and type notes in, that can be called up in the keyword search.
It won’t go to the marker itself but it will select the clip that has the marker in it. Fast.

I think it’s as simple as they want to increase market share. I think they want it both ways, they want broadcast AND people who are in a transition of moving from basic cutting to a higher level of cutting.
You mentioned that you have not used FCP X yet. Try it out and see how you like it.
It looks like a toy on the surface but get with someone that knows how to unlock the power of it.
Like I have said before on here, one of it’s strong points is it’s ability to keyword search and help you find clips that you are looking for.
This only helps people who have a ton of footage to plow through.
If you have a ton of footage, you most likely are working on something kind of big.

I used no DOF adapter and no MB on this shot. Just controlling the amount of light into the lens.
People see it and think it’s a 5D shot.
Nope.
I have seen great looking shots from those D’s
I’m happy I can get that look and get my audio into the camera the way I have always been used to.

I hear you Herb, Canon might be kicking themselves for that move down the line.
The only thing I would add is the difference between Apple with X is they are going to make money off that thing. They are going to sell the hell out of X, where Cannon might not do as well for the points you mentioned.
Like X or not, I don’t think there is any question they are going to make money off it.
The more stuff they add to it (X) the more likely we are to cash in also.

Thanks interesting info Luke, I will have to mess around with it a little more.
I tried to sync audio a couple of times as a test and it worked fine for me so I didn’t think much else about it.
I have not got a chance to work with the color match yet so I will try to do some test with that.

How does it work? Does it sync based on sound waves also?

I’m sure most of the people on here have plenty of work.
You see, the reality is that clients tend to just go with the people they feel comfortable with and have worked with for years.
I often try to push work to young and new folks I think have potential. The clients just shrug and go with another person that they have worked with for the last 20 years. Not wanting to take a chance that something may go wrong.
I went through it myself as a young up and comer. “Just give me a chance : (

If someone is totally independent and does their own film that won’t effect someone else getting hired on a different project.
I was working on a music video and a young guy came up to me with this dinky little camera and asked me a million questions about lighting and such.
I had a track dolly and a decent budget.
He said “I do videos for people who can’t afford you”
I thought good for him. Maybe one day when I’m over booked I can push something to him.
Maybe they will give him a chance : )

I agree, very silly.
I just had a shoot that involved many city landmarks in the background of the talent and a young production person asked me if I wanted to use a DOF adapter.
I told him the whole point is to SEE the great images in the background.
He then agreed.
You just have to get people to THINK about what they are doing so they don’t just follow blindly.

I didn’t like that either, but like Andy, I hit F to make a favorite.
I do like that in a long clip (20 min interview) I can have multible in’s and out’s within that same clip.
As I’m logging an interview I can be picking out sound bites with the fav’s as I go.
Kind od like using markers to make notes but just another option.
Kind of like sub-clips without the extra media.

Mike, I was wondering what you thought about the synchronized clip feature in FCP X that syncs clips through sound waves.
This was one of the features that made me take a look a X in the first place. Very fast and easy.
Have you used it and what are your thoughts on it?
