I hear you, I’m trying to figure it out like many others.

I don’t care what they use much either but I don’t want to invest in a product that’s not going to be around in the future so I’m looking for clues in the trends to see where things are going.

Many of the new features help me or will help me more in the future.

Nobody I work for wants to pay overtime these days. It’s like a dirty word. I’m asked to do more and more and all folks care about is the time it takes me to do it.

If I can find clips faster for Sports Highlights that means I can spend more time being creative.

That’s the whole reason I got into this field to begin with. I want to create.

Something as simple as that skimmer gets me up and down the timelines fast.

Watch sports on TV and all you see is time ramping all over the place. I think that’s easier.

No matter how good it looks someone walks in and wants a change so they can justify their job.
I think that timeline makes that easy.

The other thing is I like Motion. If they would have dropped Motion I would have moved on, but they didn’t.

I was on a shoot yesterday and my friend pulled out his Iphone and was showing everyone the new features. It looked really cool. I have the second phone that came out so I can’t get those features.
My phone was awesome when it first came out but yesterday it felt very old : (

The iphone has made great leaps since it came out and I think X will do the same.

And As far as Canon goes with their c300 I think they had to go that direction. Sales of point and shoots are down because people use their phones to take pictures. (I have a nice Canon that just sits)

The only place for them to go is up to another market. I would have done that also if I were them.

I don’t think those you named will go out of business. I just don’t think they will grow as fast as apple.
I like Autodesk. It looks awesome. I hope it’s out there forever.

My point is, people think they made a stupid clueless move with X

I think they didn’t.

There are other phones out there other than the Iphone, it just doesn’t seem like it when you look around the room sometimes : )

In his video a while back I think he called PrP and other track based systems an “old way of editing”
and called this (X) awesome.
(I’m not saying I agree with him or disagree on the “old way” just pointing out what he said to show where he is most likely headed)

He just appears to be passionate about this “style” of editing.

I would be very surprised if this wasn’t his main system.

I can see where he is coming from. I like this style also. People who like this style are just willing to work around what is missing, figuring stuff will be added later.

His example is

USING THE FIND COMMAND
The Find command (Edit > Find) is a very valuable tool when you are looking for something in a sequence.
For instance, type Command+F (Edit > Find) and enter the name of a clip.

That talks about the sequence.

I can find clips with the finder no problem and effects like you said.

I was kinda of talking about markers on a clip that has not been put into the sequence yet.

Let’s say I have not decided I want a part of the interview in yet?

See what I mean? It’s a small difference but others have asked me about it also. I had to try to work with it to find if X could do it (it can)

I have to admit I was not used to working that way and when this guy was asking me about it I was like Huh?

I see what he wanted now. It’s just not the way I worked before but now I like it.

If you have an example of finding a word in a marker in a clip in a bin, I will show it to him.

I didn’t use markers in fcp 6. I was working with a director recently who really likes them for docs he works on and since I’m starting a doc I started messing around with them in X.

How does my not using it before change the way it works? You either have to open another window or you don’t.

It’s working out fine for me in X

What I have been doing is putting interview clips in an event.

I play the clips and mark and type notes as it rolling. If I type fast enough I don’t have to stop the clip.

I can find those key words in the markers quick and easy typing in the search without opening another window or placing the clips in the timeline.

Just seem a little more cumbersome to me. I would rather not have another window have to pop up,
when I could just use that one that’s already on screen in X.

Like if I used markers and noted a word like “river” in the marker how would the find located that?

Chris, were you able to use a keyword search window in 7?

I went from 6 to X and in 6 there was no window for that.

I thought the search window was new with X

These are good points Frank, and if it can’t cut it, the product won’t last.

I for one like that there is more than one option. It makes them compete against each other.

Avid came out with a nice new product and many will use that and Apple will take note and make adjustments.

As long as there are options I’m fine. It’s when someone get’s a monopoly that I can’t concerned.
