Does not work in HD on AJA cards because the CC is not in the active video. Works in uncompressed SD only.

I’ve used the Boris BCC 5 uprez (fxplug) on a feature length documentary. Very happy with the results. The film was shown at a festival in a 500 seat room and looked good. Of course it was home movies and news footage. I believe you can download a demo of the software.

The MXO2 does not have the Scan Converting mode or the artifact removal for DVI viewing and it does not connect through DVI. This should eliminate a lot of complexities with changing graphics card and dependency on graphic card software fixes.

I use a little work around in NTSC since the CC is part of the active video if you capture uncompressed. I recapture the segment to be taped over. In FCP I stack the new video clip, which does not contain CC, with old video clip underneath it. I then crop the top layer by a few lines. This “exposes” the lines that contain the CC but not the old visuals. Then print to tape. Of course this only works in very specific cases but I thought I would mention it

I agree with you. I have recaptured 3 hour+docs and 6 half hour TV episodes with only a handfull of issues. Usually due to TC breaks on the tape and trying to capture over them.

Maybe I am wrong, but I thought there was no standard for drop frame for 23.98 fps.

Basically I tried all combinations depending on what I was doing. If I tried editing mode, I had IN and OUT on both timeline and ETT window. In mastering mode, IN and OUT on timeline and only an IN set in the ETT window. Turns out the only way I could get the ETT to work was to NOT have an in point on the timeline, to ETT the entire media. So to actually insert a short segment I exported to a single file, brought that into a new sequence and did the ETT of the entire seq. I also had to master an entire hour long version which worked because there was no in point on the timeline. I was in uncompressed 8 bit SD BTW. Anyway, I got the show out, both versions, but as I said, have only seen this once before and it went away after a reboot. Not the case today.

Thanks for the suggestions. Seems the issue is related to ETT using an IN and OUT point, either mastering or editing mode. I exported the sequence segment to a single clip and made a new projects and did the ETT. A second sequence works fine as long as I ETT the entire timeline. Things should be okay, gonna come down to the wire on making the fedex truck, but customer is aware of potential delay. I will trouble shoot more when I get the chance next week. Thanks again

I had the same experience recently. Could not find a work around. Luckily I only had about 30 clips to relink.

Another critical thing to evaluate is the quality of the video over multiple generations, that is, after compositing various elements, especially animations and graphics, with the camera original material. This is where ProRes should excel. Being able to work in 10 bit AND compressed is very powerful. We’ll see…
