Bottom line is that it isn’t an overlay. It’s just that FCP will show you the where the whites are blown out. It’s so blown out in those areas that there’s no info. So it displays it as black. Not an overlay. I doubt you can fix that with standard filters in FCP. Sky replacement is a good option. But not perfect. Know a really good After Effects artist? Rotobrush might be workable in AE for rotoscoping that.

Wish there was a better answer for ya.

If you go into the event browser (where yiur clips are), you can change the view to have a clip at the top (whatever one is active) and list view below it. There is a notes column in there. Click it at the top and drag it to a position you can see it in. Then type in your notes. The text is searchable.

Is that what you’re looking for?

Can’t remember…is there a “ghosting” filter in the effects like on Legacy? Not in front of my machine.

I had this happen just last week. Go to the thumbnails cache and delete them from inside the folder (don’t delete the actual folder). Then re-start FCP.

Delete preference files and use disk warrior for your system drive.

January 18, 2013 at 2:15 pm in reply to: LaCie eSATA Hub Thunderbolt Series?

I’ve had it since it came out and I love it! It allows me to use all of my eSATA GRAIDs with my newer machine and it works very well. It’s almost as fast as a dedicated TB drive but faster than it was with direct eSATA to a card on my Mac Pro! Highly recommend. You can use two drives at a time as well. Same as my eSATA card in my Mac Pro.

Thing that’s also cool about it is that eSATA drives have dropped in price since TB so you can get em dirt cheap (just picked up a new GRAID 4tb for $279 compared to a RB GRAID for $700!). While we wait for TB prices to come down, this is a great solution!

What new plug-ins have you installed recently and right before it started having issues?

January 16, 2013 at 12:26 am in reply to: can you maximize any window in FCP X like in PP CS6???

If you have a second monitor, you can place the events window (bins in legacy FCP/Premiere) on one monitor and the rest on the other screen. You can even use an iPad for the events browser. I know…it’s all different and strange at first, but it really is a great NLE when you embrace it.

You will get better results with X questions in the FCP X Techniques forum.
