January 15, 2013 at 3:59 am in reply to: Glitchy dissolves using T4i class 10 card when I export my projectIf you don’t convert those files to Prores first, you’ll up have to render yiur timeline EVERY time you do anything to it when setting your timeline compression to Prores and dropping h.264 files into it.
Do as suggested and convert your files with Streamclip or a paid on like Magic Bullet Grinder (fabulous app!) before you ever start. Your life will be much better 😉
You always want to have yiur timeline match the footage and never have h.264 footage in legacy FCP.

That LaCie eSATA to TB hub would breath new life into your GRAID and all of your other eSATA capable drives. Plus it’ll allow you to enjoy your TB capabilities (2 at a time!) while being able to buy inexpensive eSATA drives. I just picked up a GRAID 4tb drive for $279! 3 times that for a TB GRAID.

I believe Colorista works as a stand-alone plug-in as well. If not yet, it will soon. It always did with legacy FCP. I love Red Giant and, really, Looks is awesome!

January 6, 2013 at 1:14 pm in reply to: how do people switch between clip skimming and timelineGet used to hitting “S” on the keybkard to toggle skimming on and off. It’s quick, easy, and works great. And what Tom said is perfect as well. Have to say, I end up using the keybkard to drive this sports car more than in legacy for some reason.

Yup, adjust your color before you upload 😉 Gotta say though…I’m not sure if I’ve seen that with my uploads. Then again, when I use compressor to prep my file for upload (Prores 1920×1080 to H.264), my files seen to get a little lighter so when they get up to YouTube, they’re just about right. Seriously though…if they’re going to re-encode on their end regardless of what you give them, there’s just not much you can do but find your sweet spot for pre-upload color and create a setting for it in compressor for future use.

YouTube always re-encodes your uploads to accommodate optimum playback w/ their service. If you want it perfect, you’ll have to play along and find your sweet spot. Hey…it’s a FREE service!

January 4, 2013 at 1:03 pm in reply to: Subtitle project: FCP X interchange with Vegas 11Pretty sure you can. It’s really more deep than most are giving credit for. Especially after recent updates. Either way, the can use prores 4444 then compressor to animation if they have to. And I think Win users can download the Prores decoder and should be able to use in Vegas. Just can’t write files to Prores in Win.

The only thing I didn’t see mentioned here is what type of media are you using? If its h.264 / .mp4 of any type, that wold cause the issues you’re describing.

And guess what? It’s an awesome resource! I downloaded it the other day and downloaded the extras (presets for Compressor and Adobe but there’re more!) from your site. You did a great job and I thank you. Even answering my email right away when I had a question about the site. Very cool.

Is your original footage h.264 (like from a DSLR or GoPro) and not converted to something like Prores before you edited it? Kinda sounds like that may be the issue. Legacy FCP doesn’t like that type of footage and it causes strange problems like ths sometimes.
