RedRock is one of the best. Love using them! For what it’s worth…I bought a D-Focus for $189 (with one gear!) and it works pretty dang good. Had to see how they really worked abd this guy who makes em has done a great job for what you pay. On the website it says you have to pre-order but mine was sent within a couple of days.

Tools > Render Manager Once there, click to put a check mark in the column where it says “remove”, then click ok. Dialog comes up saying “this operation will flush your undo queue. Would you like to proceed?”. Click yes. This deletes the selected render files and FCP remembers you’ve done so. It’s the proper way to do it. If your not seeing this, you’re probably not doing it correctly. I’m on FCP 6 but I haven’t heard og it changing in 7.

Well, when I did it, it completely hosed a project I was working on for national broadcast. Everytime I opened the project, it would look for the renders and I couldn’t get it to “forget” them. Then, every project I tried to open…or even just open FCP at all, it would look for them. I ended up doing about two days of trouble shooting and was able to get things working again. One of which was by deleting all of my thumbnail cache files. But every time that client wants a revision on that spot, I cringed because opening it would bring the problems back. I had to do a new project and re-build that commercial to stop the issues.
Bottom line is that you should always use tools within FCP to do things that FCP is involved with or you’ll be in for trouble. Lesson learned the hard way!

One way I do it is to open the clip in QuickTime, hit control-option-4 and drag the crosshairs to select the inside of the player…your video…and it saves your screen as a .png on your desktop. I’m using my iPhone right now so I’m not exactly sure that’s the right combo for that screen shot option but I think that’s right.

If you’re asking how to delete all of your renders at once, just use the Render Manager within FCP to select which you’d like to delete and it’ll get rid of them all at once. Never delete render files directly from the actual folder on the drive, manually. Especially if you’re ever going to open that project again. World of hurt!

Are you using .mp4 / H.264 footage? That will cause that. If so, convert your footage to ProRes or another editable format first.

Is there a piece of media in that section that is h.264 or some flavor of .mp4? Or is there audio there that is not 48khs, 16bit stereo, .aif? Either of those will often cause what you’re talking about. Just something for you to check out.

You should look at “Magic Bullet – Looks” from Red Giant. Very powerful and I use it almost every day. Easy to learn

Oh, I totally agree with all of you! Best to either learn AE or Motion and create an awesome, signature, graphics set. OP was asking where to find templates and the ones I suggested are great for that. If you don’t have the time or budget to buy and learn complicated software like AE or buy a custom graphics package, templates can be great for a kickstart. I’ve used the templates and put titles into them, w/ alpha, and achieved some really nice stylistic results! The fishing show I work on from time to time has little to no budget, like most small fishing and hunting shows, so templates that can be re-worked and re-used are nice to have. Just trying to help. Of course you can buy a few specific templates but usually one can cost between $40-100 and these packs are only $80-100 and you get a ton, in all resolutions. I’ve been learning After Effects and that’s THE way to go if you’ve got the cash and time. Just tryin to help and figured that was what they were lookin for.
