My idea, get your hands on it before buying, get the ‘ feel ‘.
I got a cheapo one, including rails and it is a total joke.
The play on the sprockets is a few degrees, and the total weight of the rails + follow focus is about 5 times more than needed. (and it does have carbon rods 🙂

You get what you pay for. If it is only to impress clients, get a cheap one.
But if you plan to do serious work, be prepared to pay serious money.
But again, try before you buy. If you have felt a good one, you know why you want one like that…

That’s great Bouke, I agree totally about the ‘try before you buy’

I’m not really after cheap, I’m after value for money

Surely there must be a follow focus that works well and doesn’t cost the earth….

I have a RedRock Micro follow focus, which is solid and works well.

RedRock is one of the best. Love using them! For what it’s worth…I bought a D-Focus for $189 (with one gear!) and it works pretty dang good. Had to see how they really worked abd this guy who makes em has done a great job for what you pay. On the website it says you have to pre-order but mine was sent within a couple of days.

I use both RedRock and Cavision. RedRock is very good, the Cavision is smaller, lighter, cheaper, but works fine. Not as “tight” as the RR though…
