Which version of FCP are you using? In the current version you cannot capture timecode in this configuration.

After you mark I/O use Modify Make Subclip (Cmd-U). Simply dragging it back to the browser just makes an affiliate clip.

If you want to hear the audio from the computer make sure View>External Video is set to Off and that Video Playback is set to None and Audio Playback is set to default. (This all depends on exactly what version of FCP you’re using.)

iMvoie works in a different format from FCE. The audio needs to be rendered in the FCE timeline.

Crippled would be an exaggeration. You can’t see the keyframes, but you can make keyframes and animate images on the screen. I’m not sure what you mean by a complex animation, but I would want to do a complex motion control animation in either Final Cut Express or Final Cut Pro. You can so simple animations in both. It’s easier and you have more control in FCP.

Could you list a few of the weird things it does? I’ve seen 4.5 running with QT7 without problems, so perhaps there are specific things or pieces of hardware that don’t work with this configuration.

Those seem to works sometimes, but on my PowerBook, they failed the same way software update failed.
