Record and Stream Video to FCP using a Cannon XL1 ?
I’m sure this has been asked before, shooting with a Cannon XL1 Live, recording to tape, can I also stream out the fire wire directly to FCP on a MAC portable with a large Firewire Drive ?
Like a tape backup and direct editing ….. -

Which version of FCP are you using? In the current version you cannot capture timecode in this configuration.

I am version running 4.5 HD, but I can upgrade if needed.
Also need a fast way to transfer S-VHS (w/no time code) into
the MAC. As of now I copy to digital and upload, very slow.Thank You !

from reading the tread, I think I’m missing something?
But to answer your question: You CAN record to tape while digitizing through firewire as well.
This is more of a XL-1 question-Canon Forum than a FCP quesiton though. I think 🙂
I believe Tom was speaking to the fact that you will NOT have matching timecode-So the digitizing footage of the Mac will NOT match the timecode from the tape. But it’s a very common pratice to digitze straight to your computer. It difinately saves a step.Good Luck,
