Do not use Handbrake. Use MPEG Streamclip.

October 30, 2010 at 11:41 pm in reply to: How to lock a clip in the timeline (to maintain sync with for example the musick track)?Edit using in and/or out points in the timeline. Use the edit overlays or the keyboard shortcuts. If you have to drag to the timeline make sure you see the downward pointing arrow (not the right pointing arrow) before you release the mouse. That will perform an overwrite.

The sequence settings are determined by the media. You match the sequence settings to the media settings. They should be identical in every respect, which is way it is help if you give complete and exact information on your media.

So what exactly did you convert it to in Streamclip? Simplest way to get exact information is to open the file in the QT player and look at Movie Inspector. What exactly does it say?

The media from this camera needs to be converted into a format that can be edited in FCP. The frame resolution is only one component. What is the codec and the frame rate? The material needs to be in an editable codec at a standard frame rate, Open the file into the QuickTime player and check the Movie Inspector to get complete and exact information on your source media. You can then use Compressor or MPEG Streamclip to convert it.

October 28, 2010 at 5:37 pm in reply to: Why is the red channel handled so poorly in FCP?What’s the red RGB values? Animation is a high resolution, lossless RGB codec, DVCPRO HD isn’t. It’s a video compression codec designed for live action video recording. Never use anything that’s destiny for video above 235s, and for red probably less than 200. That’ll be plenty red enough when viewed on a video monitor.

ProRes works well with FCP. There could be other factors besides the video codec. What’s the audio?

So I take it the drive is formatted as Mac OS Extended.
Also are there any stills in the sequence that are very large and/or and not RGB?
