Hey there! First, I can’t tell you how glad I am that this forum exists. I’ve been editing in FCP on and off (mostly off) for a couple years and am only now getting serious about learning about all its capabilities.

I have what I think is a pretty basic question. Isn’t ProRes 422 the optimal codec for FCP? I ask because I am recording interviews using Skype Recorder and converting them via Compressor to ProRes 422 but FCP gives me a “General Error” when I try to import or when I import and try to render. It’s a little frustrating.

I’ve tried to attach the Inspector screenshot for the converted file.

    Anyone?

ProRes works well with FCP. There could be other factors besides the video codec. What’s the audio?

    All the best,

    Tom

Hi Tom, thanks so much for your reply. I hadn’t even considered that audio could cause a problem. I believe, however, that I’ve found the problem. (A reply to another post pointed me to it.) The source file is 320×240 and apparently ProRes needs to be bigger.

    Thanks again for the reply!
