How to lock a clip in the timeline (to maintain sync with for example the musick track)?
When you edit films with clips that need to be in sync it does happen sometimes that when doing adjustments on other parts of the film, those clips are moved “out of alignment” with the action, probably due to incorrect work flow.
Is it a good work flow to avoid this or is it possible to lock clips in the timeline. I know it is possible to lock the entire track, but that makes it that track locked so no more changes can be done. Then one tends to end up with a lot of video tracks.
I still have much to learn ….. 🙂

are you talking about linking a video clip to an audio clip? Highlight both the video and audio clips you want to link together, then press Command + L. When they’re linked, the file names of those clips in the timeline will be underlined

Avoid using the insert function. Simply use overwrite and nothing in the sequence should move in relation to the music or to where it’s placed.

Hi Rob. No that was not my question. Rather like editing a music video and then having the music track on the bottom and then having to sync up the clips of video to the music or beat, then sometimes video are out of sync after doing editing afterwards due to incorrect editing technique.
I still have much to learn ….. 🙂

Hi Tom and thanks. That sound logical. Is that the same as holding the option key when dragging the clip down to the timeline?

Edit using in and/or out points in the timeline. Use the edit overlays or the keyboard shortcuts. If you have to drag to the timeline make sure you see the downward pointing arrow (not the right pointing arrow) before you release the mouse. That will perform an overwrite.
