The best way I found to get a really good H.264 MP4 encode is to open the rendered AVI files in QT Pro and export from there, where the settings can be tweaked.

If your aim is to upload to video sharing sites such as Vimeo, your results will be very good.

January 20, 2008 at 7:15 pm in reply to: OT – Sony vx2000 menu settings erased

Absolutely correct. I had the same problem with my VX2000. As soon as battery was removed and reinserted and the camera turned on, the display showed “CLOCK SET”.

Unfortunately the lithium battery, like in a computer that keeps the CMOS settings, is not user accessible/serviceable.

SONY factory repair here in Toronto charged $50 labour and $18 dollars for the battery. Took a week to get it back.

January 7, 2007 at 6:41 pm in reply to: DSR-25 and Vegas

    Brian,
I just saw your post. I have a DSR-25 in my edit suite and have used it to print-to-tape with Vegas 3 thru’ Vegas 6. Have had zero problems – ever. Have not yet tried with Vegas 7, but have used it to capture successfully.

Right now it’s unhooked as the edit suite has been relocated, but I can check the DSR-25 setup options if you still have not resolved the issue. As far as Vegas is concerned it sees it as an OHCI device (from memory).

When was the last time you opened the computer case and cleaned out the collected dust from the processor cooling fan(s)??

I also have the ADVC100 and have never used it without a/c power. I have never had a problem with it. Most recently captured some VHS footage with it and it worked a treat.

    James,
On the offchance that my understaning of the ‘flashing’ is correct …

For my external preview setup from Vegas, I have a f/w link to a SONY DSR-25 DVTR and S-vid out to a SONY production monitor. I have seen what you are reporting and in my case it turned out that a power cord was close to some inside part of the DSR-25 at the back, perhaps the f/w connection. Once I relocated that cord my problem disappeared.

I wonder if perhaps there is something similar close to your ADVC-110.

April 5, 2006 at 8:37 pm in reply to: DVDA import subtitles

    Will,
The format of the importable subtitle text file look like this is:

    0019 00:00:19:00 00:00:19:29 There’s no blood, right?
0020 00:00:20:00 00:00:20:29 Abandon all hope ye who enter.
    0021 00:00:21:00 00:00:21:29 – Dammit!
    – What?
    0022 00:00:22:00 00:00:22:29 Dammit! I just bought this thing.
    0023 00:00:23:00 00:00:23:29 Let me see.

As you can see, there is an in and out point, subtitle text (that can span more than one line) and a sequence number as the first of the four fields.

There is really nothing to it.

If you receive the subtitle file in another format, it may be easy to convert to DVDA’s format using a text editor.

    HTH,
    Tom
