There’s another battery in the camera that maintains those settings while the main battery is off. Apparently THAT battery is dead. It’s usually a watch type battery.

Absolutely correct. I had the same problem with my VX2000. As soon as battery was removed and reinserted and the camera turned on, the display showed “CLOCK SET”.

Unfortunately the lithium battery, like in a computer that keeps the CMOS settings, is not user accessible/serviceable.

SONY factory repair here in Toronto charged $50 labour and $18 dollars for the battery. Took a week to get it back.

Wow, in my Canon XL and GL cameras it’s just a small holder you pull out of the camera and change out the batter with a $5 watch battery.

I have had a VX2000 for several years and have not yet had to replace the battery. I thought that I heard that if you charge the normal battery on the camera that it will also charge the internal battery. So instead of charging my batteries on the external charger, I will every so often charge them on the camera or just use the camera to capture footage with the camera plugged in.
