The Marshall 70 has false color, which gives you a very usable color scale highlighting certain areas of exposure with different colors based on the IRE level. Better than a histogram.

Excellent help, everyone. Hello World looks like it might be the winner, as it offers both a follow focus kit and the Marshall 7″ HDMI monitor for a good price. I’ll be sure to post the results of the shoot – I’m working with a jazz pianist afterhours in a piano bar on an original piece he’s composed. Wanted to break in my 7D in style.

Am I the only one crazy enough to air travel with a naked eng camera on a strap on my shoulder? Always has a battery and media with it in case the checkpoint guys want me to power it up. Takes up the least room that way, and is snug in an overhead. I’m usually with a lighting kit in a pelican case, so I throw all my camera accessories in there and check it.

It looks like a vehicle-mounted crane shot to me. It might certainly be more complex than that, but the road looks pretty smooth and the shot is the most steady when it’s down low and therefore less affected by the suspension movement of the vehicle.
It’s funny, at 1:50 she almost walks into a car. Worthy of a re-take under “normal” circumstances, which this most certainly wasn’t.

Thanks, Noah. I wish I was working on a Mac – I’m unfortunately on a PC, and when I try to export using the DNxHD codec, it defaults to medium quality and doesn’t let me change it in the dialogue box. I’ve tried just dealing with that compression, but it’s noticably worse than uncompressed.

If you’re viewing the knife from the side, place an eyedropper filled with artificial blood against the other side of the knife with the eyedropper’s open end against the blade. Just squeeze the dropper as you pull the knife. It need not be too complicated.

Be sure to check your FCP version compatibility if you’re working with EX. Only the newest version of FCP supports XDCAM and XDCAM EX.

I use both, and highly recommend DVD Studio Pro. Encore is extremely buggy – I’ve had crashes on long-timeline projects, bad discs (I’m re-burning one right now), and sluggish timeline navigation. Sure, it could be my discs or my pc, but I’ve never had a bug with DVD SP, and I’ve authored pretty elaborate DVDs that Encore probably couldn’t handle. I’m ordering Adobe CS3 production suite as well, but I’m not even installing Premiere or Encore.

90% of DVD players play NTSC around the world – I’d suggest sending a PAL DVD and an NTSC DVD, and suggest using the NTSC one. Even if a foreign DVD player is pushing out a PAL-resolution signal, chances are it can play the NTSC DVD.
