For now, a quick work around is to simply press the audio insert one & two buttons once the deck starts to preroll. It isn’t fixing the problem but it will get you through the current EOT operation until you have time to troubleshoot the problem.

In your Canvas window you are only seeing one field of the two field frame. The flash is likely on the field that you are not seeing on the canvas window. Set your canvas view to “100%” and you should see both fields and catch the flashes that are getting through.

Check your Autosave Vault and see if there are any old saved versions of this project. If so, you can reload one of them and at least get your sequences back.

A shot in the dark here. I’ll take a guess.
Your offending scenes are supposed to be stereo-or at least dual channel mono- and they are 180 degrees out of phase with each other. If you listen through headphones, they will sound fine, but if you play it through your TV, the channels might be getting mixed for playback (through a single speaker?) and the audio in these particular scenes are canceling each other out. That would explain why the music is still there (stereo-in phase) and the scenes (stereo-out of phase) are not. How was the audio on the problem scenes recorded?
Check the phase of the offending scenes or delete one of the tracks from the pair and see how it sounds after that.

FirmTek also makes a two channel eSATA card that will work in a MacPro as well as a newer G5 with PCI express slots. I just added one to my Mac Pro to control a 2 drive enclosure with striped drives. Just got it up and running on Monday night and it seems to be working well.

Update:
Well, I just tried it one more time and it’s flying now. Just downloaded 300meg in just a few minutes. Weird. Maybe I have someone downloading movies or some huge files in my neighborhood and choking all the bandwidth out of this node.

On a MacBookPro you will need an sata card to run your drives as a pair. I’m not familiar with just what card will work in a laptop (since I don’t have a MBP myself) but you will need a sata card with two channels to run your drives in a RAID 0 configuration. Alternately, you could also use a firewire card and run the drives that way and still be able to stripe them together as a RAID 0 pair. It’s pretty easy to set them up once they are connected. Just go into the disk utility and select the option for RAID. Follow the instructions. With two disks, for speed, set them up as a RAID 0. For redundancy set them up as mirrored drives. The RAID 0 will give you faster bit rates while the mirror arrangement will give you safety at the expense of speed and you will also take a hit on the total capacity since the data is stored to each drive redundantly. Depending on just what kind of codecs you are working with, you may want to trade backup safety for speed. I haven’t tried to run striped drives on a laptop but it should work. Kind of cuts down the portability a bit, but it’s still not too bad. I run a pair of eSATA drives in an external enclosure as a striped pair for when I need the speed and also a pair of SATA drives internally as individual drives when I’m just loafing and editing DV materials. Even a single drive is getting me around 80Mb/second from a single drive. The trick with your MBP will be to get both of your drives connected at the same time.

Yea, I have a couple of Quad machines in storage yet, a pair of Ampex VPR250 D2’s in the shop, a working BVU-950 in the rack, a single Sony 3100 is there too. Haven’t needed to turn them on for a while but who knows??
Ah, but you still can’t beat the sound of a Quad machine put into the play mode and the vacuum guides pull in and you get that sweet CLICK-WHINEZZZZZZ sound. Good times, good times.

In my neck of the woods up here, Beta SP is still the preferred delivery format for commercial content in SD. It’s the closest thing to a universal format in this market. Everyone can tale a Beta tape.
