Do the sound OK when the two channels are panned left/right? Does the sound disappear when they are panned to center? If so, you might have the phase on one of the mics reversed while recording and they are canceling each other out when panned to center.

I’ve had good luck running FirmTek’s enclosures. I have two dual drive setups on my Mac and experienced exactly zero issues to date. One is running a pair of 750Gb drives. The other is running a pair of Hitachi 1Tb drives. They work and have some nice bundle pricing on their website. Worth checking out.

Went to the Quicktime Preferences>Advanced>Show legacy encoders and checked the box.
Now all of the Avid codecs are online. My old Meridien movies are finally playing back! Yippie-Skippie!
I was just about to wipe it all out and start over….
It’s always some stupid thing…

I’m about at the point of just giving up on this one. Ran the uninstaller and got rid of all of the Avid codecs. Downloaded the fresh version of the LE packare (dated Jan of 08). Installed that. Checked that the codecs were in fact in the Quicktime folder like they should me. They are. Opened a Meridien file in Quicktime and got the usual white screen. RATS! No video at all. I’m also wondering whether the Avid codecs should be available in the Export menu of Quicktime as well? They aren’t.
I’m entertaining the idea of just wiping the HD and starting from scratch on this one. It’s a brand new machine that I copied my User folder to from the G5 it’s replacing. There are enough things in this machine right now that are squirrely and shouldn’t be happening. Might be time to cut my losses (three days of loading software…sigh) and just start from square one with a clean install without doing a migration from the old machine. Gee, it worked flawlessly last time…

I did run the installer on the new Avid “LE” package first of all when trying to play the Meridien files. It didn’t work properly. Thats when I tried copying the Avid components to the Mac Pro from the older G5 it was replacing since I know that the Meridien files worked on that machine. I had the same results-white window in Quicktime.
I finished loading the rest of my software on the Mac Pro tonight and have a number of issues to deal with. I can’t get the machine to mount my FirmTek SATA external enclosures with the new IOGear eSATA card. Might be a driver issue. Also Entourage from my older Office X software is crashing like a demolition derby at the county fair. Lots of work to do yet…

I did name the disks from the transfer program and it worked fine, bring in the names as reel numbers.
I’m running the transfer utility on an older G5 IBM machine. Don’t know it this would be the reason or not. I should still have the compressed files for the older transfer utility at work. I’ll try reloading this rather than the current version. It dod work last time I used it a few months ago.
I ended up recapturing the clips as DVCPro HD thru the Kona board on Friday. I found out that I will be needing to mix some upconverted SD materials into these videos along with the XDCam clips. I simply took the XDCam media offline and used the info from the imported clips to batch digitize thru the Kona. Worked like a charm although it did detect a couple of timecode breaks. No big deal. I’ll follow up on this issue a little later in the week once these edit sessions are over.

Hmmm…
Might have a good point. I did upgrade the Sony transfer software to import clips from a demo Sony EX1. (It didn’t work either). Maybe with this older machine/software combo I upgraded past what it could handle. I’ll check if I still have the original ZIP file for the older version of the transfer software. If so, I’ll uninstall the newer version and try loading up the previous version and see what happens.

Thanks Rafael. I can deal OK with the clip management within the project. It’s not a big deal, just a little bump in the road.
I am, however, stopped dead in the road over how to get the proxys to show up and be viewable while working within the Transfer application. I know that this has worked in the past. I haven’t transferred into the computer via Firewire for almost a year or so, but I know it used to work?!
I can’t view the proxys in Quicktime viewer either. Still getting the same “garbled” noise that I see in the Transfer application. Probably just some stupid “got-cha” somewhere. Or a missing Quicktime component.
At least the High resolution clips work all right. Everything transferred into the computer without a hitch. I changed reel numbers from within Final Cut to at least differentiate between the three disks for this project.
Still looking for the problem…glad it’s Friday.
