Missing camera flashes
As part of an 80 minute documentary I recorded an interview from FCP (Dual core, G5, vers. 6) through a ‘BlackMagic’ box to digibeta and on playback saw a number of stills camera flashguns going off which had to be removed. They mostly cover 1 frame at a time, but sometimes over 3 or 4. These are, however, not visible in the FCP canvas window. Using the ‘de-interlace’ filter I could then see some of the flash frames, but even this wasn’t foolproof, as some flashframes still slipped through to the recording. Any ideas why this is happening?

Check what your playback frame rate is in the “RT” menu. if it is set to anything except FULL it will not playback all of your frames. I have seen this several times with wedding videos that I have been editing. I have been able to remove the flash with the “drop-out eliminator” from the “CHV repair collection” This seemed to solve my issue, but the flashes lasted only one frame not several. Good luck flashes aren’t easy to totally get rid of.

In your Canvas window you are only seeing one field of the two field frame. The flash is likely on the field that you are not seeing on the canvas window. Set your canvas view to “100%” and you should see both fields and catch the flashes that are getting through.
