Just wondering.
Is the disc trade-in something that could be done at an Apple Store or does it need to be done thru the mail. There is an Apple store about two hours from me and I was thinking of driving there this weekend to trade up. I too am a little concerned about being without the system disks just in case.

I can do what I want by making a copy of the layer, but I was hoping there was a quick way to duplicate attributes on a multiple-layered graphic that is already composed but needs to be changed after the fact.

Go to the Systems Settings pulldown menu. Under the “scratch disks” tab is a checkbox for capturing audio and video as separate files. Make sure this box is not checked. I’m not certain, but I believe this setting may be tied to each persons user preference information, so each time this particular user logs onto the machine and opens up FCP, that box will become checked and the separate files will result. Uncheck it, quit FCP and the next time the user logs in, all should be OK.

Just a thought.
Your profile doesn’t list how you are capturing video, but make sure that you aren’t trying to capture SDI video through an analog input. On many analog monitors, SDI video can look a lot like static.
Might be worth checking your capture presets.

For storage, check out the new Raid from G-Tech. I saw it at the NAB convention. 2TB and nicely priced to boot. I think they are starting delivery soon. Otherwise, I’m using a Raid from Huge Systems and it’s worked well so far.

I had to unplug my ethernet cable while I was doing the transfer this morning, but simply connecting the two machines with a single ethernet cable will do the trick. Just network to the other machine using the “connect to server” command, select the drives and transfer away. I copied about 180 gigs of clips to the G5 Huge raid and it took only about 35 minutes. Not bad. I managed to copy everything I needed and then just connected the existing external FW drives to the new machine. Opened up a project and it worked just fine. Even the Aja Io worked like a charm. Looks like I’ll finally be cutting on a Quad G5 from now on. Will it now make my Dual 2.3 seem slow? Yippie!

Just a shot in the dark here. If you are funning FCP 5, you are most likely running Quicktime 7. Could your PC possibly need to upgrage to a newer version of Quicktime viewer?

Preferences>display>arrangement.
You should see representations of the two monitors. One will have a white “menu bar” at the top. Just drag that bar to the other “monitor”.

Thanks Will. That’s the same solution I came up with.
That’s just what I did last night and it worked fine. I sat there looking at the machines and in a “duh!” moment I realized the very simple solution. Man. gota stop those 15 hour edit sessions. Frying the old brain.

Just a question…
Why bump the DVD down to a CD with the associated loss of quality for distribution? Why not just duplicate the DVD? Not that much difference in ptice these days and it will look a whole lot better.
