  • 59.94 fields per second. I always thought that was just wrong to lost as a frame rate. Actually 29.94 in real life.

  • I can’t use ProRes 4444. The device that plays the Snipes back on the air requires either an Animation/alpha file or a numbered Targa or PNG sequence. It takes the file or the image folder and renders it out to it’s propitiatory file format for playback. The numbered TGA method works but it’s understandably a much larger file to deal with and they are having problems positioning it correctly on the screen (OP Error?). The animation file plays in the correct position but it’s playing back about 4 times faster than real time. It’s supposed to be a 10 second snipe. I exported it out of Motion instead and it seems to work OK. Wouldn’t Motion utilize the same Quicktime conversion engine as FCP7?

    From the Newtek info on the 410 Tricaster:

Input up to four cameras—color correct, key, crop, scale, and frame sync them too—with varying SD and HD resolutions and formats. SDI output connections can send your program out (and an auxiliary output too) to multiple destinations and displays—even send the program to another TriCaster over the network with a network output.

    It should do this??

    Hmmm. Not sure then. I would assume the 410 has the ability to frame sync the incoming SDI video inputs, but maybe it doesn’t. Did you try contacting Newtek?

    In the Setup menu for the video inputs (Input Settings Tab), make sure that the blue “Frame Sync” radio button is activated if it is available on the 410 model. This should provide conversion for non genlocked input signals at the expense of an additional frame of delay as the video goes through the Tricaster.

    What kind of cameras are you using and what format (Composite, SDI??) are you sending to the TriCaster? It looks like the 410 will accept only SDI for camera inputs and should have built-in frame synchronizers for each input channel. If this is the case, you should not need to genlock your cameras for them to work correctly.

    A little more information on your setup??

  • You might check your Power preferences and make sure that your external drive isn’t spinning down or going to sleep while you are using a different application. It sounds like FCP might be waiting for the drive to spin back up before it responds.

    I’ve been using a pair of G-Speed(es) enclosures for a few years now with good results. They replaced a pair of Huge drives. I run them as RAID5 but they should be able to run as JBOD as well. I also have a pair of Firmtek dual drive eSATA enclosures. This allows me to exchange drives between my two editing computers easily. No problems with either sets of hardware for years now.

    That camera has a built-in waveform and vector display available. Use those rather than relying on a monitor for video correct levels. Also with high contrast situations (like the white shirt) make sure that your dynamic contrast compression is turned on. It will help prevent blowing out the highlights.
