June 7, 2008 at 11:39 pm in reply to: New cameras wth no numbers on the audio meters – TutorialThanks again Ty for sharing with us. Your past posts and book saved my butt 2 days ago. Here is my story. I did a shoot sending audio, 2 lavs and 1 boomed mic out of my SD 302 mixer. we had used the same camera and my mixer two days earlier with no problems. For this shoot I checked my levels at the mixer, were good , checking the return from the camera, not so good. Sounded over modulated, like when you try feeding line into a mic level. To make a long story short, the cam op had the headphone monitor level cranked all the way up plus a bad set of headphones. Thank goodness I had taken Ty’s advice years ago and purchased a return cable. I knew the problem was at the camera’s end. So fom now on I am always going to carry 2 sets of headphones.
Thanks Ty

Thanks to all for the great insite. Guess Like anythng else I see I am going to have to get some time and hands on with a field recorder. This is what amazes me with audio, always something new to learn
Thanks again

Corbin, check their web site or contact them Trew Audio, Great people , they carry an EMP 5S by Ambient. I use this to do exactly what you are trying to do.
Good Luck

I am sure more qualfied people like ( Ty, great guy ) will give you his input. I run my mic s thru the mixer, I like the by pass filters if needed and also gain and output control. I am not familiar with the recorder so I don’t know if it has the same features as the mixer

Why would you ask others these questions ?

No Offense intended, but why are you posting this in the FCP forum? I would try event videographers. You don’t have a day rate for yourself ? should know your rates before you look for work 🙂
Good Luck
