I’m thinking about ordering the Sony EX1. Has anyone had a chance to use it and how does it work with FCP? I have the latest version. I primarily shoot tv commercials and am hoping that this camera will provide us a little edge over competition shooting on mini dv and dv cam.
What other components would need to be ordered in order to revamp one of my edit bays to handle the SxS work flow? I welcome any thoughts or suggestions.
I am also looking for a full time FCP editor/shooter in the Memphis area. Thank you in advance.

you do know that the EX 1 is HD only?

I have had no issues with the FCP workflow, (has to be at least 6.02) and you are best to have a xpress card reader if you do not have a laptop with an xpress 34 slot.

of course there is always HDSDI output also.

Gary: Thanks for your quick response. Yes, I am planning on shooting everything in either 720 or 1080p and down converting. I know I’ll have to purchase another AJA too. Do you have any recommendations as far as the AJA or Blackmagic or even a monitor? Could I use an LCD or Plasmasa? My total budget for everything is $15K. Thanks.

Have no direct experience of the ex-1 – but am thinking about it after seeing this:

(video linked in first post in thread).

Looked very impressive to me for such a low cost camera. The workflow for fcp should give you no problems. A cameraman friend of mine described the lens to me as ‘amazing for the money’.

I am thinking of the same camera, want to see any reports first on how it handles recording audio

Just noticed that if you click on the ex-1 picture on the ad on the left there is a link on the promax page showing you the fcp workflow step by step. Easy!
