When you say render do you mean just rendering the timeline so you can play it OR do you mean export to a file when you have finished the project.

Rendering time varies depending on how many and what kind of effects you have assigned to the clips on the timeline.

Exporting involves rebuilding each frame to the output format you have chosen while also processing any effects.

Before I switched to a PC I edited 2k Red on my 2008 Mac Pro with 24GB memory, a Quadro 4000 grphics card and an external 8TB Maxx Digital raid array.

You didnt mention it, but for that (or any) workflow you will need an external raid array for your media. To play 4K you will probably need something like this.Especially if your Canon creates H.264 files.

AVC 100 is better due to the higher sampling rate.

I have a Kona card in my HP Z820 and its solid as a rock. Also had one in my 2008 Mac pro.

Make sure you have the most recent AJA driver and AJA/Adobe driver.

I think thats speculation . As I said above, I have 7 year old Blu ray disks that still play great. I think reports of their early demise have been greatly overstated (to steal and butcher a phrase from Mark Twain). 😀

Thanks Herb. Thats good to know. My research into that technology hasnt been extensive. So farmy projects dont need a long shelf life. And Ive read reports the Blu ray disks fair better over time then CDs or DVDs.
I guess time will tell. FWIW I have Blu rays from 7 years ago that still play fine 😀

PS My Z820 was $14,000 before the $4,000 discount 🙂
