can a maxed out iMac i7 (2012) handle a 4K Premiere Pro CS6 workflow?
I’m very interested to know if the latest iMac i7, maxed out with 32 GB of RAM and an internal 750GB flash drive can handle a 4K work flow in Premiere Pro CS6?
My next project will involve shooting 4K with the Canon EOS 1DC and editing 4K, and as my present computer is over 4 years old, I know I definitely have to upgrade my editing station for this type of workflow.
Will the iMac i7 maxed out be more than enough? Or would it be wiser to wait for Apple’s rumored upcoming new generation of Mac Pro desktops? (If and when they arrive hopefully later this year).

You didnt mention it, but for that (or any) workflow you will need an external raid array for your media. To play 4K you will probably need something like this.Especially if your Canon creates H.264 files.

I use the 2011 iMac with a Promise Pegasus RAID daily and I’ve had no problems doing 4K R3D onlines. I need to drop the quality down to 1/2 though.

Before I switched to a PC I edited 2k Red on my 2008 Mac Pro with 24GB memory, a Quadro 4000 grphics card and an external 8TB Maxx Digital raid array.
