I don’t think that would work well since you would have a very sloppy timeline that could make timing difficult and might put clients off if they wanted to see the cut before you finesse the effects.

Nicely done Keith. I applaud your comparative experiment with the Mac and PC. I can only say your general attitude and investment in your system echoes my experience as well. I feel blessed at this point in time to have an early Mac Pro 2008 since I have not experienced any “drag lag” with the short things I have worked on. Based on my experience with Adobe so far, I have the utmost confidence that crucial issues will be addressed. And I’m sure having a lot of fun sliding up the learning curve. 😉

Yup, that’s one of the givens when using dynamic link that I bumped into. When I used to use Auto Duck to send clips from FCP to AE I would add a little to the head and extend the duration of the clip within my AE sequence. When I exported as a QT movie I then would have handles to work with. Im not sure how to implement this need for handles at the head with the concept of dynamic links.

Walter Biscardi (Editor/Facility Owner/Etc) conducted a test with a dual core system (early Mac Pro )and found that it didnt have the power necessary to use the software as intended. He surmised that a dual quad core (MAC) was needed after testing our one of those as well.

Yes, I have read both articles. Very helpful ways to deal with the Trim Windows current limitations. Ive even come up with my own workarounds that get the job done. But I strive to enhance PrP’s capabilities in order to make great software even better.

Many of us dont have the temporal luxury to “just explore” all the nle alternatives.unfortunately. Sometimes Im learning new software (i.e. Cameratracker in AE) because I have a project that needs it. With the clock ticking I need to make a decision about the best way to go (based on minimal research and gut instincts) and start learning a new system that does what I need it to do. Luckily the ducks lined right up for Adobe CS5.5 for me. I used AE for years. PrP was very similar to FCP (what FCP 8 should have been) and it was reborn with the power and capabilities I need for my work flow. AS a student or a hobbyist I might try to spend the time necessary to get familiar with other vendors. But that just isn’t going to fit into my timetable. All my energy is focused on building new muscle memory with Adobe.

I have the same positive experience with PrP. Its a refreshing change from the last few months of the FCP roller coaster. Dynamic link with AE seals the deal for me.
