My guess is that it has to do with the servers, but I defer to experts like Kevin and Todd for this one. I hope they can help you resolve it.

In addition to Kevin’s questions, which Mac Pro and operating system are you using? Which raid array? Which version of Premiere Pro? Other folks with newer Mac Pros have reported this “drag lag”.

  • That could be a challenge due to naming conventions and the way PrP identifies its dynamically linked elements. Please let me know how it goes.

  • Jim , I think it really depends on your work flow.

    1. If you are doing a lot of dynamic link of clips from PrP to AE
    a. A Global AE project file with lots of comps seems the only way to do it since it avoids the pitfalls of several same named projects and comps screwing things on your timeline up.

    2. If you just build in AE then render out files to be imported to PrP, I have a separate AE project for each thing I build. And organized into folders that make identification easy when rebuilding is needed.

    Whatever fits your creative style.

Bummer that Flag is your next release. I find The Werks a much more useful application. At the rate things are progressing my guesstimate is it will be available in about a year. Thats a real shame.

As soon as the client says its LOCKED, Murphys Law goes into effect. I would just send each clip to AE (dynamic linked) and grade each clip with Color Finess. That way the PrP timeline still can be reedited. Another choice is to buy Colorista 2 and just do all the grading in PrP and keep things even simpler.

It sounds like to me instead of have 2 comps in the SAME AE project…you had 2 comps and each was was in a seperate AE Project. The behavior you are describing is exactly what happens when you have MORE THAN 1 AE project. At least that has been my experience.

Ted, sometimes if your raid array or computer isnt fast enough the software will downress the Record screen (right screen). What color render bars are present on the timeline. Does your animation EXACTLY match your sequence. As a test, drop your animation clip onto the “make Sequence” button at the bottom of the Projects Panel and see what happens.
