Dave, do it the way Richard suggested. The trick is to have only 1 AE project with all your comps within. Otherwise AE and its naming conventions can really make a mess.

When you come back to work on an existing project, the first thing to do after opening the project it is to highlight one of yourexisting AE dynamically linked clips and “Edit “Original”. That way, when you are ready to send another clip to AE, its already open and will just create just a new comp. Good luck!

Im just reporting what Adobe says about its own software. CUDA only affects certain properties designed to take advantage of it. Encoding and Decoding do not use CUDA. Go argue with Adobe if you disagree 😀

[Gabriel Sanchez] “Cuda enabled cards do accelerate the h264 encoding,”

That is not true Gabriel. The CUDA cards DO help by accelerating certain features on the timeline, but they do not accelerate h.264 encoding.

    Adobe info sheet…

Here’s a list of things that Premiere Pro CS5 and later can process with CUDA:

some effects (complete list at the bottom of this post)
    scaling (details here)
    deinterlacing
    blending modes
    color space conversions

It’s worth mentioning one set of things that Premiere Pro doesn’t process using CUDA: encoding and decoding.

What computer platforms are you both on? Also, I see 2 ways to export. One is H.264 the other is QT H.264. I guess you need to specify which one you are referring to for clarity’s sake.

Sorry Ken. I have no idea what you are asking me in your first sentence.
Secondly, Dynamic link can be used between several applications and in several directions. I use it to add motion graphics to a portion of the PrP timeline that needs it 😀

UPDATE… Oh, I see, you are referring to lower threads. Thats not how I view this forum. I have limited familiarity with Motion so I cant really answer that. I prefer After Effects for many reasons. Use what makes you happy and what gets the job done 😀

Sure it is. You save yourself the time and hassle of selecting parameters for exporting from AE….exporting from AE…importing to PrP…inserting new clip in old clips place….AND doing this every time you make a change. Actually 12 GB of ram is pretty decent it just depends on the project in AE and what programs are being run simultaneously with other programs on your computer as to whether PrP can just use the ram preview is done in AE as a matter of course.

Yes you have to render it. Dont you have to do a ram preview to view it in AE? Same thing in PrP. If you have enough ram in your system (I have 24GB) PrP can use that ram preview to view the DL clip on the PrP timeline, in some cases. Dynamic means you have the ability to interactively change parameters after viewing. But rendering is always necessary, either by exporting a movie from AE and importing it into PrP (the slow way) or by rendering / viewing in PrP and altering in AE (a faster way – no movie exporting and importing required).

When weird things happen I do 3 things.

    1. Trash Preferences

    2. Clean Media Cache

    3. Delete Preview files

For more info on these processes. Google is your friend 😀

But BM is responsible for making the hardware and software drivers work! Not Adobe.
