Hello all, I’m attempting the switch from FCP to Premiere and am having issues being able to playback through my Decklink Extreme to my production monitor. All the latest blackmagic drivers are installed and I can see Blackmagic presets available under the capture options but when I check playback settings they are non-existent. Any thoughts?

Are your clips in a BlackMagic sequence?

I wasn’t but I just created a new project and used the following settings.

    Capture Format: Blackmagic Capture
Sequence Preset: Blackmagic Digital SLR 23.976

Create a sequence, import some clips, drag one into the timeline and now the program viewer remains black and will not playback the timeline, nor does it play out to the monitor and when I attempt to look at the playback settings window instead of getting the window like the one in my original post the only thing that comes up is a small window asking whether or not I want to turn off a drop frame warning.

I appreciate any advice you may have.

Uner Preference – Playback setting make sure you have the drop down option for Blackmagic (drivers). If you dont, you need drivers that support 5.5, which many vendors are working on now. Check their website for new downloads. If not, contact them.

    Hi Kyle,

we’re having the same problem. Want to switch from FCP7 to PP5.5 but without preview on clients monitor that doesn’t make sense.
We are now experimenting with older driver versions…

    Hi Thomas,
fellow German switcher from FCP to Premiere here (though also looking at Avid).
I managed to get results with both, AJA and BMD. There are still issues and it isn’t as smooth as we are used to with FCP but it is doable and there’s a good chance now it will get better. What are your settings? What material are you using?
I am currently in an all-prores workflow because of all the FCP stuff. What works best for me is to go with an uncompressed setting from the AJA or BMD presets, that gives me the most stable output. Let me know, glad to help where I can.

Everything I’ve read is that in order for CS5.5 to work you need the Blackmagic Desktop Video driver version 8 or higher and I have 8.0.1. Which it would just “work” I’ve been spoiled over the years by FCP. We edit RED, Alexa ProRes and Canon DSLR footage and it kills me that I can’t just set my playback settings like I could in Final Cut.

I thought I would chime in with info on the new AJA drivers for Adobe. They are up and running and allow display of PP, AE and PS on an external monitor.I am using Kona 3 with a Panasonic 2600W. It works great!

    Heres the link..

You need the Kona drivers 9.0.3 AND the Adobe Plugin drivers 9.0.1.

I am using the newest drivers (9.0.4) and plugins (9.0.1) and the Kona 3 is not outputting to a G series JVC reference monitor via SDI. Also, I have a lot of 1080p29.97 material and there is no AJA preset for it. That’s why I’m installing Avid Media Composer as soon as I can and hoping for a better experience converting from FCP.

How will installing Avid help you? Avid does not work with the AJA Kona 3 at all?

I installed the Blackmagic 8.2.1 driver yesterday and still have the same problem that the others have: no moving image from the timeline or program. The Adobe info is unhelpful.
