Steve, the only time folks still consider transcoding is when their computer has issues with a certain codec that really taxes their computer. This might be due to an older computer (CPUs), slow raid storage or some other systemic factor. Most people dont have these issues.

Thats great to hear.I look forward to some first hand fun with that.
Ive never had problems with QT playback Its just how dog slow exporting can be with it.

It could be. The Z820 have the new Sandy Bridge Xeons. Im just thankful I now have that capability. Although qt32serve is still a bottleneck that slows things down and I prefer to avoid it.
My exports are twice as fast if I use MXF OP1a AVC-100 for mastering or the MP-4 variant of H.264 for distribution.

In my experience when a shot completely loses focus, camera trackers have no data to work with, thus rendering them unable to track at that point in time.
You might try tracking before and then tracking after the focus loss and somehow linking up those two comps.

My experience was I was unable to export ANY QuickTime files on the Z820 running Win 7 PC (this inability affected CS6, and other software as well) until I shut down only 20 processor threads . Then I was able to export any QT wrapped media with no problem. Several folks have responded saying this has helped them as well.

My experience and this Adobe bulletin seems to indicate that amount of PC processor hyper threads is an issue.

When I follow Adobes suggestion or use this other approach the problem clears up.

Excellent question, Daniel. I really dont know. OSX is so tied into QuickTime Im not sure if using something that isnt wrapped with QT would be faster. Logic says it would. It maybe worth a test on your Mac.
