[Jan Crittenden Livingston] “I did and still do think it is odd that the footage that they decided to show was recorded on a DVCPRO HD machine”
Absolutely right. But maybe you could do some deal with canon that they could advertise how much better canon camera looks when recorded with panasonic vtr. 🙂
And seriously, genlock, tc i/o and hd-sdi connectors are really killer features in this price group.
Panny should also consider these to hvx-200a, don’t you think? -
[Ron Lindeboom] “But MOST times it *is* fairly priced to the market niche that the product is actually targeted to serve.”
I think that’s the biggest problem p2 might have in the future: staying in niche.
I believe that most of us in this forum who are conserned about price of p2 is because the hvx200 seems to be very attractive camera, but if the memory’s (or hdd unit’s) price does not decrease rapidly enough, it may make the camera obsolete very fast when some other manufacturer brings similar model to the market with cheaper mainstream memory.
I’m still strongly considering buying this camera, but not a day before I see a p2 card also from another manufacturer (so that there will be competition) or CF-card adapter.

[Bettsy] “The other advantage this camera has over the HVX is the option of shooting with the Pro-35 Digital adaptor, giving real wide angle lenses and primes.”
Maybe you’re talking about P+S’s Mini35 and I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t also fit in front of hvx200.
[Bettsy] “I imagine the limiting factor on the image qaulity will be the 1/3″ chips.”
That surely will limit this baby. If you think about sensitivity Z1 with 960×1080, how low it is with 1440×1080 1/3″ chips…

[Emery] “Its simple really, the Canon would really be stellar if it was real 24p, and offered direct to disk recording”
Maybe canon gets their ccd block from sony and sony does not want to offer progressive alternative.
Dv-tape is still needed for legacy reasons in lots of shooting situations and even hdv might be handy in some multicamera low budget productions. All that canon needs now is a box that takes in hd-sdi and 2.5″ hdd and has some nice (maybe jpeg2000) compression encoding in it. -
So really good is not good enough… 😉
In the spring you guessed similiar schedule for announcing and releasing than with dvx-100 had.
This timetable has since slipped quite a bit.Can we have a clear date when hvx-200 is officially released and all the specs revealed?

Yep, just an another camera with interlaced ccd’s that we don’t need or want…

Depends on resolution, color depth and frame rate.
