Maybe somebody could scientifically calculate the average picture quality of certain clip in 35Mbps 15 frames GOP 1080p30 mpeg2 compared to 100Mbps intraframe compressed dvcprohd 1080p30?
With what factor interframe compression can do (visually) lossless compression?
One thing for sure is that long-GOP material needs much more processing power to edit.
Other thing might be that fine details that seems to be unchanged in intraframe compression, usually does “live” in interframe compression, because the detail level depends on the other pictures in the GOP.
