I’ve noticed that CS4 freezes up if I have my camera/deck connected via the firewire. Noticed this by accident after my freelancer got so frustrated with Premiere that he quit. Not sure what is causing it…only in Vista 64 on 1 HP laptop while the other HP laptop with 32 does not seem to have an issue with it.
Good luck.

Odd that you can do this in Premiere 6.5. So many things lost in the newer versions.
Praise the COW!

December 13, 2008 at 11:37 am in reply to: Help! Premiere Pro is going to put us out of business. After fighting and scouring the web from 10pm to now 3:30pm……The only fix anybody has come up with is to create a new user in Vista. Re-install does not work.
WOW. Did I say WOW yet?
Seriously, we’ve done with this clumsy assemblage of mismatched, purchased parts. Worst install experience of my life because Adobe does not maintain reg. info.
Horribly dissappointing and saddening. Now my Apple friends have finally won after all. LOL 🙂 Trying to laugh to get the sick feeling out of my stomach.
Wow.
Best,
Todd.

I can state that we have nothing but horror stories with CS3 and CS4 on our Vista32 and Vista64 computers. Currently CS3 and CS4 won’t open on the 32 system and we can’t find a solution.
Any ideas?
The installation alone took us 10 hours on the phone due to Adobe password/SN issues and I’m about as close to over it as I have ever been with any software. Reminds me of the early 90’s before people figured out how to make software.
Guess we’re either Vegas or Apple bound. This stuff is literally going to put us out of business if we continue.
Good luck.

Get the XH-A1 at $3300. It’s truly the most camera you can get for the money at this point in time and you will have it for more than 2 years, thus justifying the additional $1300.
Either that or hang with a Vixia for $800 for a year.

There is no benefit to shooting in SD since you can down convert from HDV to SD and it looks sharper.

Some of these controllers are specifically made for Panasonic’s oddball protocol as well.

July 8, 2008 at 5:43 am in reply to: Terrible XH-A1 low, medium, upper-mid light performance? Or, am I using it wrong? Thanks Guys!
I am just starting to get a handle on this camera. I’ve been a little spoiled and some might consider “dumbed down” using Panasonic and Sony cameras that do a lot of this for you quite well.
It looks like if I am to use A1 cameras I am going to have to learn some REAL camera skills which may be bad at first but will hopefully end well.
Shot an Indian wedding this weekend and I am relatively pleased with the results with +6 db gain (lowish light for a wedding), 30 shutter speeed and iris wide open.
I will begin experimenting with the coring, etc. (which I have heard suggested by others so Don must be onto something).
Huge professional theatre festivals coming up so I will hone skills quickly.

What kind of mic are you using? If it’s a dynamic mic you may get some hiss.
Do you have the XLR’s set to LINE or the ATTENUATION turned on?
Check these first.
