Ctrl-click (mac), or right-click a clip in a bin and select ‘Reveal in Finder’. I just checked in 5.5 and it’s there.

Are you sizing the graphic at all? Also, when you move it, are you making sure that the position you place it in is a whole number? (Not something like 351.3). Those are things that can make graphics look bad as well in a 720×480 sequence.

As Chris pointed out Thunderbolt can handle the throughput. The Promise site states the R4 gets speeds up to 500MB/s, which I’m guessing is in RAID-0. Although, I saw one site that put it through RAID-0, 10, 5, and more. If you plan on RAID-5, the numbers don’t look good for the box. https://hamed.dk/blog/101-pegasus-r4-r6-review
But if you have a backup plan in place (even with RAID-5 you should) then RAID-0 and backups should work well.

Did you render it out, or are you just looking at the PPro preview render? When rendered out to a separate file, it should look a whole lot better. Well, that also depends on what file/codec and compression you render it to….

Mike – One thing I have noticed, on both PC and Mac, is that when doing something when Autosave pops up can hang up PPro. Happens quite frequently to me. Especially if I am typing in numbers in the Effect Pallette. I’ve made my Autosave to be less frequent, but hit Save keystrokes more often – those keys will probably be the first to wear out on my keyboards… Haven’t experienced much problems with AME though.

I’ve found Dynamic Link to an AE comp to be more of a pain than it’s worth. Unless I have a short AE comp or just animated text, I will usually just render out a complete movie file and import that into PPro. DL is nice, but is very slow depending on what you have going on in that AE comp.
I have some transition comps that change weekly. I use DL for those and yes, if I park in the middle of one that isn’t rendered, I have to wait a couple minutes before I can see it.

AE comps work in much the same way. It’s nice in PPro to nest a large number of graphics and add one transition and still have them keying through to the other layers. It is easy enough to just add a layer of black video or a black matte under your graphics, if you want black behind them.

XP? You could get XXClone (free) and clone the drive. I’ve successfully used XXClone on several XP systems. There is an option for making your cloned drive bootable as well. For XP I find this easiest. Since then you can drop the drive in, tell the PC to boot to that drive and you are working again after a drive failure. Whereas if you image, you have to write all that data from the image to a new drive, but you can do that easily over a network connection or DVDs. So it depends on what you are really most comfortable with.
