Confused about Levels effect
I’m working on a DVD project.
I have a sequence (Sequence A) with a combination of clips and graphics. I have it nested inside Sequence B, where I’m trying to make Sequence A broadcast-safe.
I’ve read that the Broadcast Colors effect is not the best way to achieve this. Instead, I’m applying the Levels effect to the Sequence A clip inside of Sequence B.
RGB Black Input and Output are set to 16, with RGB White Input and Output at 235.
This seems to work well, except when I have a graphic that doesn’t fill the frame (which occurs often). The space around each graphic is still deep black. The blacks on the graphics are getting crushed, but the spaces around them aren’t.
I can compensate for this by layering a solid black event below the graphic. This fills the space, and the black event gets crushed, matching the graphic.
But I’m trying to understand why this is necessary. Why is Sequence B not applying the effect to the entire frame?
